WCR: Sniffly, sneezy, no discharge... otherwise happy, good, and eating well most of the time. Still battling bouts with chronic pancreatitis so we do have our yucky days. He does a lot of lip licking and the vet would like me to start the appetite stimulant again, in addition to pepcid, and a very small dose of metacam every other day (he will not prescribe bupe). I am weighing the pros and cons and reading up on everything, including the study from July 2010 on NSAIDs in cats. I'm kind of stuck because Willow shows clear discomfort some days and I've got to make a decision on this soon.

SS is not updated, I'll get to it in the next few days.

I'm starting week 8 of being sick with this cough, so I'm run down and tired. I've been lurking but not posting.

there are other pain meds out there....Tramadol which some kitties do not do well on it...Rocket had a bad reaction to it....Buprenorphine is the drug of choice...not sure why your vet doesn't want to Rx it....

when Rocket's vet wanted to Rx Caninsulin I told her i wanted Lantus....so she reluctantly Rx it...but i had to insist on it....so if i were you i would totally not give metacam....

you can read this link http://www.felinecrf.org/causes_of_crf.htm#metacam it contains lots of links within the info there....i know Carolyn and Latte had issues when Latte was around....due to Metacam her kidneys were compromised....i'm sure you can pm Carolyn...she did lots of research on this and she has the big NO NO on her signature.....

in order to ease the flare ups you need to give pain meds for a few days....pancreatitis is VERY painful....

if he is in pain due to the flare up i would not give the stimulant....that makes matters worse....

give the pepcid ac reg strength 1/4 tablet of the 10 mg sid and that may help with the acid if not you can go as high as 1/4 tablet bid...

having acid and in pain is not fun at all.....hope you insist the vet to Rx the bupe....

good luck.....

will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers....(((hugs)))
