Re: 4/24 Sammy AMPS 273 +3~389

OMG THE VET SAID HE WOULD LOOK AT THE SITE.

At one point in the conversation I said something I read one of you said to a newbie this am about how feline diabetes to him was "a day or two notes back in school" and wasn't a lifestyle. He agreed. He's never encountered a tight regulator before and thinks I'm anal but loves the data even if I am "mean."  And I'm telling him there's a lot of people like me and the people on the board know more about the subject than most vets and if you guys hadn't been there the other day when Sammy was overdosed he wouldn't be alive.

Anyway, he said to give Sammy a half a cc of the Lactulose this am, be prepared for his numbers to go up, repeat tomorrow. If no poo in 48 hours, go to BID. If diarrhea starts, retreat and cut back.

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. He went and looked at the X-rays and said Sammy was not completely clear Thursday nite but there wasn't much left.

Maureen:

I came across this information on lactulose. It's in the last few lines from this Mar Vista Animal Med Center website.

Lactulose should not be taken by diabetics. Even though lactulose is not readily absorbed by the mammalian intestine, there is still a small percentage which is absorbed. In addition, there may be some unbound fructose or galactose in the syrup, enough to be a problem for a well-regulated diabetic

It sounds like your vet is aware that Lactulose can have an effect on BG numbers. Did you happen to ask him if Miralax might be an alternative? I know there are reasons that Miralax may not be indicated, but it wouldn't hurt to ask since it doesn't contain any sugar.

Good job with your vet! He's going to think we need to start a Testaholics Anonymous program if he opens many of our SSs.
