Re: 4/24 Jake AMPS 277

Lots of purring is good!
This morning was your 11th cycle on this dose and green disappeared like magic... poof!
Any chance you can write the word Dose to your subject line tonight or tomorrow to see if Jake's dose needs to be fattened a bit?

Re: 4/24 Jake AMPS 277 PMPS 88!

He's down to 88 at PMPS. That's good. I will get a spot check in tonight.
We are headed outside now for his nightly stroll on the patio while I water the garden :)

Don't give him alot in case you have to keep feeding. Test again about every 20-30 min. to make sure he's coming up.

Nina has your back!

I would actually try giving some LC with a 53. It's not a scary number. You feed a small amount -- a teaspoon or two -- to get Jake surfing. If you fed HC, that's OK.

I probably fed him too much because I panicked a little bit. I know 53 is not too low but it sure is lower than what we are used to all those years on other insulins.
I fed him some Senior gravy & lamb Friskies (17% carbs) - he ate a little of this and then I gave him 2 tablespoons of chicken baby food and a couple treats.
I checked him again at +5 and he was 82 - phew. I will test him again in an hour and see where he's at.

For future reference...

I will feed LC first if numbers are above 50.
If numbers are in the 40s, I feed either LC or MC. This depends on where in the cycle the drop is an how much momentum is behind it.
If numbers are under 40, I feed HC.

That said, a lot depends on how carb sensitive Jake is.

When you get numbers below 40, you may want to test every 15 min. to make sure the numbers are responding to the food. We refer to this as lather, rinse, repeat. Once you get 2 consecutive tests where numbers are stabilizing (i.e., a surf in the 60+ range) or rising, test every 30 min. Once you get 2 consecutive tests with stable numbers, you can get a test in an hour. The reason for the frequent tests is that as the HC food wears off, numbers may bobble around.

Good advice to put on fridge. Just to expand on what Sienne said about "where in the cycle" you get the low numbers.

The earlier the drop (such as at +1, +2, +3) the more you have to watch the BG numbers, and may need the bigger guns... i.e. MC or HC foods.
