ugh. At least you have the tools to fight this now. If only he would STAY down when he gets down. I think it's time for another Lantus increase tonight or tomorrow, what do you think?

I was just going to ask if you thought Lantus should go to 5.5U tonight. I don't want to get caught up in substituting R for the longer action of Lantus. Gus seems to be hungrier yesterday and today. I feel like I'm shoveling food into a endless pit. He is literally hungry all day long. I'm talking linebacker amoounts. Yet, to my eye, it seems as if he's lost a little wt. Ketones=neg. So, nothing until PMPS, yes?

I would R him again at +6 if he stays high. Might as well keep trying. You don't really need to test hourly anymore, though, unless you give him a new R dose.
500s are better than 600s! 400s would be better, though.
We'll need to keep working on his R scale, but 0.1 seems to hold him pretty flat so I think that is safe to give at PS almost any time, even if he has a lower PS. It might help cover his food spike and keep him from going up so much in the first couple of hours of the cycle. 0.25 can drop him 100 points sometimes, so reserve that for when he is 400+ or maybe 350. I wouldn't mind seeing another round of skinny 0.5 one of these days when he is high AFTER +6 to see if that might be a good dose for him when the Lantus isn't working at the same time. For now that seems like too much to use at preshot, though.

I'll pre-test of course, but probably R him again if he's >400 at +6. I'll give him R.25 at that time. I'll be increasing his Lantus dose to 5.5U at PMPS and won't give R at that time. Gus will be a happy boy to hear that he won't be tested every hour. He's such a brave little guy.

You're doing such an outstanding job, Bev. You should be very proud of yourself. Many people wouldn't even think of taking this kind of time for a "mere" pet. I glad he's worth it to you.

Your plan sounds good, if he bounces, hit it. If it's really obvious that a bounce is starting, you can give R at +3, 4, 5. +6 is a guideline because you don't want the nadirs to overlap, but if he is heading high then he isn't really going to have a nadir in that cycle so it's ok to R. Make sense? It's a "know thy cat" thing, but we know Gus goes high fast once he starts his bounce. If he's really going up fast, then it might be a good time to try that skinny 0.5 again. Not yet, though, let's see if he can do something with this 314 first.

Maybe if I hold my breath...... Gus has perked up a bit and is grooming himself. He nose is wet for the first time in weeks. He appeared to have gotten some very restful sleep this afternoon and since then, has looked better. I've noticed that oftentimes he's restless and can't seem to stay in one place for any length of time. But today was different. Maybe I'm wishing so hard. Not getting a +6 tonight. It will be enough to get the AMPS tomorrow. Hope everyone had a good day.
