Hey all! It's been awhile, I know,. Things have been hectic around here, trying to find a job and take care of everything else... Anyway.. thought I would touch base.. I have to go get Smokey's +5 and update his ss for the last few days. Once I do, subject line will be updated.

Smokey's been running pretty constantly high for the last few days. Really weird, nothing's changed about his insulin or diet. I don't understand. I'm thinking I might need to increase, but of course I'm here for advice first. Yesterday was really weird, his +4 and +6 were higher than his AMPS.. Has mom a bit worried of course.

Anyways, I will be back in a few, going to grab a +5 and do mid day feeding, then update SS.

Waving Hi!!! Nice to see you again..once you get everything updated we will have a better idea on what is going on and will be able to tell you what the next dance steps should be...will be watching for your newest sets of numbers so we can see what's going on with the little guy.

Well,.. Just when I'm not sure his numbers are going down..

His AMPS today were 352 and +5 was 66 before feeding,.. heading over to his SS now to update. This is the first time I've seen him under 200 in DAYS... so I'm just shaking my head. I'll be back.. Thanks Mel, glad to be able to be back of course. Life's just sometimes a little hectic! Plus with his numbers running high over the last few days, there wasn't any great or pressing news to post... I knew yesterday when I got a 411 at +4 and +6, after an AMPS of 365 I would be back to report today, I'd never seen that. Not that I can remember at least..

Actually he isn't all over the place he is a bouncy boy. Try this open his spreadsheet and step back from it so all you are seeing is the waves of color. If you look at it he goes low hits the blues and greens in a cycle then shoots all the way back up into the reds and pinks...stays there for almost exactly 3 days then does what he did today makes a run for the greens very quickly...dropping about 60 pts an hour on average...and I will lay money tonight he is going to go screaming back up again. His body is freaking out on those fast drops and reacting like it thinks he is about to hypo. It isn't just hitting low numbers that can cause them to bounce so can those free falls like to day. It has to feel sort of like being on one of the amusement park rides or a bungee jump where you fall really fast, hit bottom and bounce back up. Don't know as you couldn't get me on one of those rides for love nor money.

That 66 is saying that the dose isn't too high, because that is almost perfect for his nadir, it is those fast drops we need to figure out how to put the breaks on so he doesn't go sky-rocketing back up. He actually reminds me a lot of Deb's Lucian...when Lucian takes off he tries to shoot for the moon and stars as well. Now correct me if I'm wrong but your folks or at least your dad can help you out with testing and feeding right?

If so here is what might help, have them/him get some extra test in for a few days so we can figure out just about when if Smokey is going to make a run for the basement he is going to do it. Then try to alter the way he gets his food to help put the brakes on those fast drops. Autumn was doing that to me as well and what I found just recently works well for her is front loading her, instead of how I was feeding her with her getting her meals at amps and then at +6 she is now eating half her morning cycle food at amps and then the other half at +3 which is before her onset so once her insulin kicks in it already has all the food it needs to handle in her bloodstream and can just deal with that and not having it throw an additional spike later in the cycle. That might be something to try with Smokey to see if that helps with those rapid drops.

Thanks again Mel.. Smokey gets fed at AMPS and +6 as well, I''ll try doing the mini meals and see if we can get him a little more stable.. I'm pretty much running the show with Smokey right now, my mom has Rheumatoid Arthritis pretty bad, and my dad works full time. So, seeing as I'm home mostly all day every day I've been doing all the testing/feeding thus far. Once I go back to work, my mom will be handling the mid day testing and feedings. I just need to show her how to test.

I'll get some more tests in these next few days. I've just been trying to give his ears a little break over the last few. He doesn't hate to be tested, because he gets a piece of chicken before and after I believe.. but when I go to poke, he sometimes does jerk his head and get up and move a foot away.. one time he jerked his head as I was poking... it tore his ear, not HORRIBLY, but bad enough it had me feeling bad for him.. I got him neosporin w pain relief and bactine if they get really bad..

Oh so been there and done that on the torn ear part... :-D Poor Autumn when we first started out she was in such rough shape I was almost afraid to restrain her or even pick her up she was just so thin and dehydrated that I was sure I was going to break her. There were several times that my computer screen looked like a CSI crime scene from her shaking her head or moving right as I poked causing me to miss the mark and hit the vein. :roll: Now I get her to lay in my lap so I can control her head better or I go to where she is napping and slip up on her so we don't have quite the blood spatter that we use to. And I even knew how to test before getting her because of having Musette and Maxwell prior. It is all just part of the dance and finding what works for each cat.

And even with the years for treating diabetic kitties and Autumn in particular it took me until just this week to figure out the whole food schedule thingy. I still learn something new everyday not only with my sugarcats but with my civies. But that is kind of the cool thing about treating a diabetic is we become better cat parents in general. Regardless of how many years or how many kitties we have shared our lives with before getting blessed with our first sugarcat.

Just wanted to say that those are some nice numbers today. I think Smokey must have heard you threatening a dose increase ;).
 
I feel for ya girl, Lucian is a bouncy boy to the extreme, but hang in there, I am and hope they settle down eventually.
