Good Evening LL!
It's been another long week, but it ended with better news.
Six
I would appreciate some eyes on his ss. I was shocked enough on his PMPS because his +10.5 wasn't horrible that I checked the meter. The control test read in the appropriate range. Last night I bumped him up to 1.25.
Here is his current situation...
He's eating 8% carb, lower fat food - Grammy's Pot Pie. We do have 4% carb, lower fat food - Cowboy Cookout - on order. I am not willing to go with higher fat food at this point for fear of pancreatitis flare. He has been getting plain, lightly cooked, chicken this week too.
It is possible that he could be eating even higher carb food, but tonight I know he did not eat anything between +10.5 and PMPS.
He seems happy...witnessed all Ps this afternoon. His p~titis symptom is lethargy and he doesn't seem to be presenting any symptoms at this time.
We are working on solving the food problem. For those who don't know the background, I had a healthy civie develop pancreatitis last week. I have to believe high fat food was a factor. We are trying to transition to one type of food (or maybe two would even be nice) that's lower fat and LC or MC. The civie's are getting the 8% mixed with HC until the other cases come in. Finding the right food that most of the kitties will eat has become a serious problem. If we have to move to different foods for civie's vs. Six...we can do it, but it will be a challenge. We're doing it now and I can't monitor him 100% to make sure he's not getting into the other food. I'm not going to be able to try homemade raw until the summer starts and I haven't found Feline's Pride in a local petfood store yet.
Questions
1. Was the increase to 1.25IU a good move?
2. Could this all be caused by 8% carb food? Should I be concerned or looking for something else causing these numbers?
3 .We have a vet appt to run a follow-up spec-fPl test on Monday from his Feb flare to make sure he's in normal range. He also visits the acupuncture vet on Wednesday. So we have some stress situations coming up. Suggestions?
I'm not sure I'm going to post daily. I'm struggling to manage the current cat issues (though much improved), work and post daily. It makes me sad, but it's a reality for now. I do find time to pop in and read - usually in the early morning so at least I feel connected. Summer break is in 5 weeks
.
Lyle Update - skip if just reading about Six.
We had another scare this Monday evening. He vomited twice. We dropped him off at the vet on the way to work Tuesday. He was checked out and they ran another spec-fPl test. I barely slept Monday night - on the couch near him - so the rest of the week was trying to cope with lack of sleep and worry. We continued to treat as p~titis. Vet called yesterday and it was NOT a continuation of his pancreatitis the week before. His value was at 16 during his attack and at 1.6 as of Monday!!!!!! He hasn't vomited since...who the heck knows.
The lower fat MC food is for him and the other civies. I have to admit I am super paranoid about anyone developing p~titis. I have been doing as much research as I can, but worry about making drastic changes like I did with the LC food. Financially, I don't want to cause more problems. It's been a killer the past two weeks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed everyone can manage the beef in CC. I've tried it with a few cats and it seems to be ok. I've visited 5 different pet stores this week and called another 10 trying to find food to buy in small amounts to try.
So that's it for now. Plan on visiting many condos this week to see how all of our friends are doing!
