4/23 Noxin AMBG 74, PMBG 59 (+10 days) Diarrhea?

Noxin's condo from 4/14 is HERE.

Hi all. It has been over a week since we popped in here.

I want to say a great big THANK YOU to everyone who had stopped into our condos and given us support and advice.

I am supposed to be doing another curve soon and reporting back with my vet (who last she heard Noxin was still throwing pink numbers).
Last curve I took readings every three hours for 24 hours. Do you think I should stick with that again this time? I see some of you seem to do readings every 2 hours for a twelve hour cycle.

hi there

nice numbers on SS.
A mini curve is about every 3 hours, both cycles if you can handle the 24 hour curve.
Althou not completely necessary to do 24 hours.
A regular curve is about every 2 hours.

With Noxin, you may want to spotcheck about 3 to 4 hours after food,
ex: at breakfast time (your old shot time) and dinner time..and a mid cycle check would be good info as well.
Any other checks is just bonuses.

Every three is a mini curve?

So I should do every 2 hours? For 12 or 24? :-D

PMBG 59.

Both he and his sister have diarrhea. They have both been eating strictly FF liver and chicken dinner for the past few days. I tried to introduce chicken feast into their diet yesterday, but they barely touch it.

They are eating less because they have the runs. Is this something that I should just wait out? The first decade of their life was spent on dry food, so this was never an issue.
 
Did you switch them gradually or just switch?

If you just changed food up on them you may need to add some dry food back, temporarily.
 
How about adding a probiotic? You can order FortiFlora via the internet -- either through Amazon or PetFood Direct. There's another brand that I've used, ReNew Ultimate, that you can find in the refrigerated supplement section at Whole Foods. Marjorie uses a different product also available at Whole Foods. Others have used Culturelle.

Plain yogurt with active cultures can also be good for diarrhea. Some cats also like plain canned pumpkin (not pie filling).

They've been on all wet for at least ten days. Just the past two or three I noticed the runs. I figured it was the all one flavour I was feeding them (was giving them three, but cut out the two that had wheat gluten, and just recently bought the chicken feast which they aren't keen on).

Hmmm. This is a common problem for wet food eating cats I take it? Is plain yogurt okay for diabetic cats? It just seems so similar to dairy, which is carby.

Canned pumpkin? Noxin will grab a bag of baby carrots right out of our hands if we are eating some, and then run away with the bag. The things are as bad as catnip and chlorine for him. I bet he'd do pumpkin. How do I feed it, and how much? Just mix it in with food?
 
i haven't done pumpkin, but i think i saw on someone's post to give them a tablespoon or so and they would eat it plain.

no, i don't think diarrhea is common with canned food, but anytime you greatly change a diet you risk that. make sure if you try yogurt you get a natural, no sugar kind.

Julie's right -- any major abrupt switch in diet can cause poo problems. When I switched the kitties to raw, Gabby had the runs for about a week and then it cleared. You may want to be attentive to the composition of what you're feeding. For example, Wellness is fairly high in fat. That may be a factor for Noxin.

I should also point out that there are an awful lot of kitties in the last week who have been having problems with diarrhea.

I can't add any more to the poo discussion...you've gotten good suggestions! ;-)

Thank you Sienne, I will keep composition in mind. Especially since in a week or two I will be attempting to expand their menu.

Thank you Laurie! Noxin seems very happy (Diarrhea aside of course).
