She is back to eating on her own, not with her normal gusto but she is at least eating on her own again and seems to be back to her happy purry self.

Went ahead and reduced her down to .4u and will watch her like a hawk today.

Re: 4/23 Musette amps 165 we have eating

She did eat all her breakfast this morning, she wasn't exactly dancing on her hind legs like she normally is first thing in the morning, but she did eat it all. Her poor little ears look so sore this morning from all the pokes she got yesterday and she seems as tired as I am today. And this morning after she ate I made sure she was going to hold it down before giving her insulin.

Its amazing how such little things like eating their breakfast can make you so happy!

Normally Musette pulling a number in the 30s wouldn't have caused me a moment's pause, but when I set down her food and she acted like it was going to bite her, my stomach became intricate celtic knot work. but thankfully because of all the information I have read over the years on this board, once I could breathe again I just ran for the Karo and pulled out the blender and the oral syringe...nothing like being prepared when crisis hits to pull you through without a complete melt down...lol

Preparation is sure the key. There is nothing worse than going brain dead in a crisis and not knowing what to do next. That, more than anything, scared me about the fire next door. I was not prepared.

Anyway, I saw that you think the food she had yesterday might have caused the tummy upset. It is more likely that what she ate the night before caused it although I suppose it depends on how sensitive her system is. I now with Jeddie it takes about 12 hours for him to have the nasty runs from dried egg product. Maybe it is BOTH the dried egg AND the beef that she is sensitive to?

Re: 4/23 Musette amps 165 we have eating

I suppose it could be either or both since I did notice and think also noted it on her spreadsheet that she was being picky about her food the day before...both days were the chicken & beef Fancy Feast. But regardless from now on she gets neither as we are going back to her previous diet of Friskies and since I already have a civie that can't tolerate beef there will be no chance of her getting anymore beef. I don't need the grey hairs that yesterday caused, I have plenty of those already.

And moving her back to the Friskies certainly makes catfood shopping easier for me as well, so again another plus to no more special food for Ms. Musette.

On a side note Ms. Lulu will be arriving on Saturday the 28th to become part of the Fur Gang, she is however, getting a name change...we think she needs something more fitting her beauty, so once she arrives her new name will be Autumn because her coat has all the blazing colors of fall leaves. :-D

Mel, do you have a PetSmart near you? I ask because their brand, now called Great Choice (ne Sophisticat) is very similar to Friskies but does not have menadione sodium bisulfate in it. I stopped feeding Friskies a few years ago when I read about it. The Great Choice pate flavors even have the same names as Friskies like Poultry Platter and Mixed Grill, etc. I know not everyone has those big box pet stores nearby, so thought I'd throw that out there.

More info on MSB:

Autumn is a great name for her. She is a beauty. I'm sure you will "fall" for her as soon as you get her home.

Re: 4/23 Musette amps 165 we have eating

Nope the nearest Petsmart is as close as the nearest small animal ER....or about 300 miles from here.

Did you ever see the comedian that does the routine about..."You want to go to Chuckie Cheese? You want to go to the mall? Great if we didn't live 150 miles away from one!" well that is where I live...150 -300 miles from everything!

I've already this week chased 2 cows, 3 chickens and a goat out of my backyard, and I'm in what they consider town...lol The Fair Grounds and the 4-H barns are about 4 blocks from my house.

Here our choices are Kmart, Walmart and local grocery stores as well as 3 yes 3 feed and farm supply stores. Canned food choices are Friskies & Fancy Feast, 9-lives (7 out of 13 won't eat) and Special Kitty which they all use to love until the changed the recipe now only 2 will eat and of course neither of those are the diabetics.

There are several house brands of pate cat food that I have seen but have never been able to track down the carb content for them. But from what I have seen just reading the labels most contain grains or potatoes, which I am leery about giving to Maxwell or Musette but do occasionally get them for the civies just for a change of pace.

I'm just happy that Musette has her appetite back and her numbers look great for as high as she went last night. Running a curve on her today because I'm just slightly paranoid after yesterday.

So far her numbers are
AMPS-165
+2~143
+4~121
+6~97
+8~92
+10~107
pmps ~ 146

Much better than I thought I was going to be looking at today, I was hoping for maybe yellows today instead she is giving me lovely blues and greens. It's been a Good Day Tater...as Larry the Cable Guy would say.

And Autumn isn't even here yet and I've already Fall-en for her..lol

Man, her BGs were awesome today after all that craziness yesterday!!

LOL, about the 150 miles from everything. I know that situation and being stuck with what you've got. Personally I like Farm stores though but then I have chickens and feed wild birds.

I might as well have chickens, I have the neighbors chickens in my yard more than they are in their own yard...lol Except that I'm on the wrong side of the street to keep livestock. But while it has its drawbacks I like it, after living in big cities most of my adult life.

Yeah I couldn't ask for better numbers on her today after the craziness of yesterday...if she had still been on Lantus I might have gotten lucky to see maybe a high yellow or a low pink today coming off that 34 and then jumping up to 395 last night for her nadir. I'm tickled with her BGs today, hope they continue this pretty.
