Was able to get up every few hours to test last night and he had good numbers! Here's hoping they continue thru the day.
PS I already feel like a zombie and the day has just begun! Nobody better look at me the wrong way today!!! @-)

This is just great! and not just the numbers ...the data! It's a possible explanation of what's been happening to E during the day!!! If he's been doing this every night, and from what I can see, his pattern seems to be to go lower at night, then he is bouncing from those lows during the day. Yes, I do have a suggestion but I think you need to collect some more night time data-sorry but a good solid week would be very helpful-, to be sure that this is what's happening and then, since your vet already uses it, maybe, MAYBE if these high bounces continue during the day,a little help from good old R (in tiny amounts) may be the answer. I may get reamed for saying this but I don't mean it to be a permanent solution. I just am thinking along the lines of helping E with these horribly high bounces and as a means to flatten him out. But that's just a thought for after you have gotten more data like this.Of course any thoughts pro or con are more than welcome . I just happen to have a kitty who was very bouncy and very ketone prone ultimately this is what saved him and has helped his bounces immensely.

Good work Susie!(I'd also think about the schedule thing..lol)

Re: 4/23 ELIAN- amps 250 Had a good night! :-)

Thanks Caryl. When he went in for his dental the vet gave him two doses of R to get him thru. Will keep testing at night this week (good thing for him it's a slow week - for me, not $o good!) and then take all suggestions/recommendations to my vet...along with the E man!

A bolus insulin like R is not a bad thing when used correctly...and carefully. It's purpose is to be used in conjunction with Lantus or Levemir (etc), not to replace it....and just enough-which is really a minuscule amount- to give the main insulin a good/decent number to work off of as opposed to a really high number which will again cause a bounce. But it's dangerous if not used correctly (meaning the time it's given and the amount that's given). This is not for everyone but to me it seems like E might be a good candidate. JMHO :D

Re: 4/23 ELIAN- amps 250 Had a good night! :-)

I suspect your vet opted to use a fast acting insulin like R since you had withheld insulin the morning of the dental. R is in and out very quickly and you can give multiple doses the way the vet did. I also suspect that Elian was being closely monitored.

Personally, I would not vote in favor of your using R at the moment. Most cats go through a period of bouncing at the initial stages of their diabetes. It's hard to know how long they've been in high numbers prior to diagnosis. As a result, their bodies become acclimated to the higher numbers which can account for at least some of the bounciness. There are several people here who use R. Should you decide that it's something you want to consider, Dyana and Libby are experienced users. For now, I'd want wait a bit longer to see if Elian can begin to bring his numbers into a more consistent range on his own. But, that's one person's opinion.

You had asked in yesterday's condo about injection sites. This is a picture of where you can inject.

Thanks so much for your opinion and the site. He's having a great 24 hours. Fingers crossed THIS is the time he realizes its not a bad place to be!!!

Woohoooo -- look at Elian go!!

Sometimes, as a kitty sees good cycles, it's not a consistent thing. Fingers crossed that Elian starts to spend more and more time in these kinds of numbers.
