OK we have upped the dose to 1.25 units today.
Grumpy (aka Cedric) received a clean bill of health at the vet plus his FVRCP 3 yr vaccine and his Feline Rabies shot. And I showed my pet sitter (who works there) how to give him the 1.25 dose.
I have to say I complained about the bubbles I would get with the BD syringes; the Reli-on ones are worse!

Re: 4/23: Cedric amps 285

Now see I use the Relion syringes and I have no problem with bubbles, but maybe that is just the difference between Lantus and Levemir. As I use to have all kinds of problems with whatever syringes I used when Musette and Autumn were on Lantus, but when I switched them to Levemir the bubble problems ended...I just figured I got better at drawing the dose. (shrug)

Glad to here that Cedric got a full bill of health, now hopefully the dose increase will also give him better BGs as well so he will feel as good as the vet says he is doing otherwise.

Hmmm makes me wonder if it is a difference somewhere in the insulins...As I remember I had lots of bubbles with Lantus and now I don't with Lev. I still have some used Lantus in the fridge that was leftover when I switched Autumn maybe I will have to pull out a syringe and try it and see if I get bubbles...now I'm curious.

I've had bubble issues with BD, Relion, and the Surecomfort I use now....and I'm using a vial not the SoloStar Lantus if that makes a difference. I figured it was because I'm not good at filling syringes....but perhaps its the nature of the drug.

Re: 4/23: Cedric amps 285

interesting...just went and grabbed one of the leftover Lantus pens, did it exactly like I do Autumn's shots and guess what...BUBBLES that you just can't flick out. However when I tired opening the syringe to the dose slightly larger than I wanted and sticking the syringe in the pen and letting it slowly fill the bubble came out easily...now I'm really curious gonna have to go play with old insulin and a syringe and see if I can figure out a way to draw it bubble free.....hmmmm a new puzzle to figure out..lol

Re: 4/23: Cedric amps 285,pmps 236

I push/pull the plunger with the cap still on the syringe and while it helped with the BDs not so much with the Reli-ons.
I usually end up pulling almost twice as much insulin to help get rid of the bubble. I can't seem to figure if I push the insulin out holding the syringe up or down is any better. JMJ!

Well when you guys figure out the best approach - let me in on it please :).

Re: 4/23: Cedric amps 285,pmps 236

I'm using Lantus and either BD or Relion syringes.

What I do is take the cap off the syringe. Then I pull the plunger all the way out, and put it back in. Make sure to push it all the way in. Then turn the pen upside down and pull the insulin out. Seems to avoid bubbles and loss of insulin.

Give 2 shots a day to 3 kitties now. Was 4. Last year, I had 6, so I got a lot of practice. Sounds like a lot of steps, but it is pretty quick.

Hope this helps.

He's coming down nicely tonight. If I could stay awake, I would check him at 11pm (+5) but I will be asleep by then. told the boss that I would need to do a curve next week, but since I can work from home, he's ok with that.

So Claudia, when you say hold the pen upside down, you mean with the rubber stopper pointing to the sky? I usually hold it with the stopper facing down...
