Yesterday’s Condo for Oliver

Typical start to the day for Oliver; he was waiting patiently on the rug beside the bed, ready to head to the foods area when I got up. He is still more about foods, so he heads there but is not surprised when he is scooped up and carried over to the test area. He's patient and lies down for the test, but then heads immediately to the kitchen for you know what! He has caught on to the part of the routine where he gets foods, right after testing.

This shot is cycle 4, so we will be going up in dose tonite to 6.5uLev and keep using R to pull down to coast. Today's 1.5R will hopefully get him down to a decent pink - it's sad when you are hoping to get down to a pink!

Oliver seems to have a characteristic attached to ragdoll cats; they are floppy and limp kitties, in addition to being a bit big.
Oliver does not bother to cooperate and would make a lousy dog as he does not come when called unless you have an open can of food in your hand, and he don't play fetch. You have to find where he is flopped, pull him out, then pick him up in a forklift fashion with both hands and arms, then carry him wherever you need him to be. He is also not a lap cat but I don't think he was allowed to sit on furniture or people.

He is looking SO great Gayle...you are doing such a GREAT job. Of course, I totally agree that wishing for a Pink is really an awful situation to be in...but yeah, that Red IS on the low side and hopefully, he WILL get down to sissy Pinks soon. Hoping for pinks..sigh. The pictures are great...he is really looking great! :thumbup

And just to show that a fair bit of that foods he is inhaling is staying put inside him.

He looks great, Gayle! It sounds like he's doing well - hope the numbers come down soon. What's with the comb? Logan loves nail files. I have to close myself in the bathroom and turn the water on so he doesn't hear me using the file. He goes nuts for it - will take swipes at me trying to get it from me.

Oliver has an odd coat on him. It's different textures and he really needed a good grooming when he got here. I have a feeling that he is a big shedder, I just realized that the word shed applies to him in more than one way, so I have tried the various grooming brushes and combs and gloves I have gathered over the years to see what would work best on him.
That little comb was handy to gather some of the loose hairs after a brushing, and a circular horsehair brush also work well as a scratcher on him. I don't know why, but he just grabbed it once and wanted to chew on the comb, so I let him.
I have a feeling it helped him realize that he could play with stuff here and it was OK. Shortly after the comb thing, he decided to snoop around in the buckets of cat toys and stuff, picking some he liked with a hooked paw.
I have shown him other grooming tools and combs, but he just really likes that comb.
So it's his now.

OK, I have a problem with all this politeness from Sir Oliver. Would you please tell him that it is ok to climb on the bed, jump on the bed, wake you up, etc.

He really needs to understand that to be a cat, he is supposed to go and do as he pleases and that means getting on the bed!!!!!!! :roll:

Hillary, ITA that Oliver needs some lessons in being just a cat who does whatever he pleases. I am trying, but it's really not easy. I think he was just allowed on the floor and that's that.
I put pillows all along the back of the sofa so that the cats can look out the windows and I have to keep putting him up there to catch the breeze. He loves it up there, but has never once jumped up on his own. It's like he needs to be given permission.
So far, on his own, he will sit up on a foldout card table chair, and the footstools. Also, he has claimed the climber cat tree as his own. No big deal there because the girls both thought it was a stupid thing.
Slowly but surely, he is loosening up and the day may come when he will know that he is home now.

It's so sad that he was never allowed to play or just be a cat. So glad you took him in, Gayle! He deserves a good home. One day he'll realize that it's ok for him to be a cat and he'll loosen up! We went through similar things with our dog, Livy. She came from an abused home and had obviously never had toys. She didn't play a lot but finally discovered Niam's squeaky toys and just went crazy! She would sit there for 30 minutes and just squeak them nonstop...drove us insane, but it made her so happy so we let her! She now thinks she owns the place and doesn't hesitate to play with the toys.

I've told you before and I'll say it again...I have a cat crush on Oliver! Well these new photos are just ♥♥♥
He will assimilate to the point where he feels more than comfy jumping on the bed and wherever else he feels like going, but fact is, Oliver is 8 and you've only had him for less than 2 months(is that possible)?..old habits die hard ..lol! You're right. He will surely get there

You'll find your dose for Oliver. I 'd rather see him pink with you than any other color with anyone else! You're doing a great job with him and if anyone can get him to where he's supposed to be(insulin-wise), it's you. You've already given him love and family. He's a lucky boy!

Oliver is sort of trying to grab Booboo when she passes by but it's like an elephant wanting to play with the mouse; she is curious, and comes to sniff noses and will maybe lick his ear, but WHOA don't touch me you are too freaky BIG! And forget about Shadoe; even he knows she does not want to play with him.

I sure am hoping we can get some sort of lower numbers out of him; until we do, I'll see what I can do with R, but not too much. Even today, 1.5R at ps did not too much, so I'll try another 1 at +6. The fresh steamed chicken makes a few extra shots a bit more tolerable though :smile:
