On the board in the AM! That was quite a ride yesterday, for a newbie and all. ~O) ~O) ~O) Instead of coffee, Gus ordered a regular size Lantus machiotto with a shot of R...to go. "Sugar Kitty Barista" who'da thought! Gotta go. Time for +1

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 1R=HI

Come on down from there Gus!!! We wanna see you on the lower floors is Right!!
Have a good Fursday!

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 1R=HI

Only Gus could start out in the 400's, get his shot of insulin and another shot of R, and then have numbers too high to register on a meter. Only Gus!!!  Come on, big guy!!! Down you go.

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 1R=HI 2R=588

Meter is Reli-On Micro and it does not give a BG which registers over 600. I'm seeing all his R numbers as a curve and thinking that his HI right now is actually somewhere in the 600s. He seems to be responding despite an R dose decrease this AM. He cries during these R curves because he is so hungry. Poor guy, I hate to make him wait, but it has to be done for his own good. Not unlike 'It hurts me more than it hurts you." We'll see how the 3R looks. I'm going to go see if he'll play, that'll either distract him or work up his apetite!

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 1R=HI 2R=588 3R=HI

Libby, at PMPS tonight, I'll give just Lantus 4.5U to see if the bounce is resolving. It will be his 7th 4.5 cycle. If Gus' #s show the bounce starting to resolve, is an increase of .5U Lantus justifiable tomorrow AM?

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 1R=HI 2R=588 3R=HI

How would a person know if Gus just needs more insulin or when it might be appropriate to have him tested for acro or IAA?

Libby, i guess i'm wondering about this in comparison to punkin's dose - realizing, of course, how punkin got there and ECID and all. But why wouldn't Bev just increase Gus' lantus more instead of using R?

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 1R=HI 2R=588 3R=HI

Hi guys .. sorry to see Gus so high .. hopefully he comes down for you today .. I know it's hard to see them high all the time, but you are doing everything you can for him .. Hang in there guys .. have a great day!

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 1R=HI 2R=588 3R=HI

I think you're right, I do think he's responding, it's just hard to see when the machine won't give you a number.

Do you want to see where he is at +6 and maybe consider giving one more dose of R? If he has gone down to 400's at +6 then I wouldn't shoot any R because that might mean he is starting to come down on his own, but if he is still 500-600 it should be fine to give it one more time. It's entirely up to you. I'm at work so I probably won't be able to check in.

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 1R=HI 2R=588 3R=HI

Why do I feel as if I say,"I can't take another one" that I'm really letting him down? Am I setting him back if I don't agree to do another R curve now? Or will we just be collecting data? Because for data:No, but for Gus:Yes. He has such a terrifically hard time not eating anything for that length of time, that he cries. That's more than just a little rough on my heart. Please be honest with me, as a cat lover.

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 +6 HI ??s

he can eat as normal. You've collected good data so far and I don't have a problem at all with letting him eat. I'm sure he is hungry, with his numbers that high.

You absolutely don't have to do it again if you don't want to, and no you won't be letting him down. You're doing an AMAZING job of helping him, and I have had you do a ton of tests in the last 24 hours. If it's about the food, though, you can go ahead and give the shot (0.25 should be fine, or 0.1 if that is more comfortable for you) and give him food. You can wait 2-3 hours to do the next test, too, since you now know he is not going to drop at +1. Do whatever feels right to you.

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 R.25 ????

I think I would g with the .25 of R based on his reaction so far. My husband says to me "Don't be afraid of his #s falling too far, the only thing gonna bring Gus down to a dangerous level is a sledge hammer". NO NO NO Do not take it seriously. He's a lucky boy to have beans who loves him sos much. Back to business. Libby, when would I give the R? at PMPS along with the Lantus? Also, should Gus' dose of Lantus remain the same or go up by .5 to 5U? I'm glad to hear that Gus can eat because the crying was tough.

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 R.25 ????

if it's around +6 or +7 now, you can give the R now. I don't think we'll want to give him any tonight at PMPS. Just Lantus tonight at PMPS. Gus will be glad to hear that.

I would be inclined to wait another day before increasing his Lantus dose. Let's see what happens tonight.

And no sledgehammer!

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 R.25 ????

if he's still high you can still shoot. If by chance he has already started coming down on his own then I wouldn't.

We know that is safe because this late in the cycle, there is no Lantus action left so he would otherwise keep going up until the next shot starts to kick in.

Re: 4/21 Gus AMPS 462 R.25

If Gus is still HI, I'll give .25R. So, my 3R is going to be my PMPS as well. Right? To be followed by 4.5U Lantus.

Re: 4/21 Gus 3R/PMPS=504

Got his 3R, fed him, and shot 4.5U Lantus. I'm going to be away for a couple hours. I don't expect anything too great at +1 or +2.

Re: 4/21 Gus 3R/PMPS=504 +3=461

I just couldn't bail out on him. I felt that he would be that much closer to healing numbers if I gave another dose of R. Gus' +3 is due to Lantus alone because the R has washed out hours ago. I'm glad if he can keep it somewhat close to that. I'll get a +6 just to see how he's doing. Long day.

Re: 4/21 Gus 3R/PMPS=504 +3=461

You're such a good mom, Bev!! You must be exhausted with it all by now. Stay strong!! :-D

I'll get up at midnight for a 360 anytime! I'm glad to see it, but one thing I've learned: Don't get accustomed to the 'low' #s with Gus. He's only passin'thru! 'Til tomorrow...it is tomorrow
