? 4/20 Moe: AMPS=379;+6=348;+9.5=421;PMPS=467, fur shot;+3=481;+11=425

I did notice this morning that he’s grooming much more than prior to dental. Saw him working on his back claws; haven’t seen him do that in months. He spent some time do an all over bath.

Moe ate a pretty big "snack" at about 3:00 pm (+8) and an hour and a half later (+9-1/2), his BG is 421. It was 348 at +6. He eats Friskies pate for the most part, a little bit of Fancy Feast pate, rarely Sheba and recently Tiki Cat Velvet Mousse. His snack at +8 was about an ounce and a half of Fancy Feast and maybe two ounces of Friskies. That just seems like a huge jump from food. Is that normal?

First off, what is a normal food bump is ECID, and depends on the timing. Different cats have different carb sensitivity. Some cats need a lot of carbs to move them, Jill's Alex got a bump from freeze dried chicken. The timing off food is also a major factor. After nadir, the insulin is starting to fade. Think of it like a car slowing down towards a stop sign with no gas on the pedal. If you add carbs after nadir, it's like putting on the brakes to the insulin action. The duration, or length of time the insulin is effective, gets shortened, so you end up with higher numbers. If at all possible, try not to feed after nadir. Or if you have to, try to find something as low carb as possible, possibly zero carb.

That makes sense. But dang, it’s so hard not to feed in the afternoon. They all (7 of them) start begging around 2:00. Shot time is currently 7:00 am/pm, normally 5:00.

I swear Neko would have chewed my fingers off it I hadn't given her an afternoon snack, at the time she was used to before diabetes. I just did something zero carb. Neko naturally had a later nadir, so it wasn't too bad. Moving to Levemir made it even later.

I worried about Moe all night since his BG was so high before I went to bed. This morning still high but not as bad I feared...425 at +11. I WILL do a better job with his injection this morning - no fur shot!
