Well, that is better. Guess I should calm down. lol one more cycle on the s1.0... we'll see where this 146 takes us! Stayed up late watching The Thomas Crowne Affair (the remake) last night. Forgot how delightful Rene Russo's performance was in that movie.

Willie's curled up next to me, already almost back to sleep as well. we'll check in later!

Rene is one of the great under-appreciated actresses around...much like Edie Falco. If you haven't seen the movie Freedomland...give it a whirl.
But focus on Edie Falco's character...her performance will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
Tough subject matter, as most of us are old enough to remember the incident that inspired the movie, and
of course, Samuel L Jackson and Julieanne Moore are great, but...i'm just sayin'....Falco delivers!!

Can't say I've ever seen Freedomland. Maybe we'll get it on Netflix tonight. I do love Rene Russo, and Edie Falco both. DH loves Julieann Moore, so should be a good one for us to watch!

Christie, how is Willie doing by now? Any change?

Willie...Mannie is right...all the FDs are comin' to our house in AZ for pool time. Daddybean finally up and he's making chilled, poached roadrunner wraps and niptecates (oooppss...couldn't wait for Mannie, Tess, and Chaos and already had some myself)! We can just chillax by the pool and the beans will bring us yummy stuff...oh...and did you know I gots a fresh catnip garden too????? See ya soon.

I think our pen may be done for too. I've been seeing these bubbles in it which I've never seen before. It's about a month old now. I dunno, it still seems to be working though. Gah!! Sorry I posted and ran... here I thought I was just tired from the movie, but I woke up after noon, still sleepy, and feeling like my head was going to implode... most likely allergies, as I opened the window for Willie.

He is eating at odd times today, in part because I'm giving him straight Wellness (didn't have any raw thawed to mix in). He loves it, so he's clearing his plate, whereas usually, he'll eat about 1/3 to 1/2 and then eat the rest later, which works well in the btb scenario. :)

I'm pretty sure I haven't been giving fur shots the past few cycles... I did suspect one the first day, but now I think probably not based on those numbers. Today I know I got a good shot.

My insulin has been hard to draw, at times I'll draw out 5 or 6 units, but nothing comes out. My first pen was like that too at first, so I didn't think much of it. It isn't expired (May 2013), but I do notice a trail of tiny bubbles all up one side of the inside of the pen, and I have been exceedingly cautious about simply drawing extra and working the syringe from there... i've even burned through probably 6 extra syringes on this pen. I guess it is possible that it did freeze at some point, but the first pen, kept in the same coffee mug in the fridge, didn't freeze because it was going in/out of the fridge twice a day?

As much as I hate the idea of wasting $40, I think I'm going to go to Costco and get a new pen. Question... If I'm only using it for the 28 days, is there any real advantage to keeping it in the fridge? The manufacturer says it is good at room temp for that period... and heaven knows it is all I can do some days to remember to get it back in the fridge. Especially in the morning, where the alarm goes off at 5:15, I roll over, grab willie, poke his ear, and immediately get up and start prepping his insulin and fuds. I'm in an apartment with a pretty old fridge. Keeping at room temp would keep the freezing variable off the table for future pens. Since I can purchase one at a time, I'm also going to stop getting an extra. While I like being prepared for "just in case" scenarios, I worry that it cost me money, and more importantly, Willie's positive momentum.

Thanks for listening to me rant. I do know that I may be looking for a logical explanation when the answer may just be "he's a cat." But I'm just still very uneasy that his numbers spiked the minute we started the new pen. To top things off, I did find chunks of potato in Willie's wellness today. So glad that I bought a case of it, AND the BG Chicken & Quail, which it turns out is high in phosporus. Looks like I may be calling the local Petco store and seeing what my return options are, as the online reps indicated it is in the store's discretion to take returns?!? Their website certainly doesn't say that!

And loving the movie reviews today!! Will be adding some things to the netflix queue... I have a real Tivo box, so once something is in queue (easy to even do on the android app!), I can just pull it up on my TV.

I bet it's just the pen. Maggie was showing some high numbers not that long ago, and when I got new insulin, they improved. I was using the vial, and I think the maximum for me is three months.

don't forget the shed - even if the insulin was bad, the effects probably would not have shown up on the very first shot. He has done the yellow thing before and it's possible that his pancreas just got a little tired and he needs to go up in dose for a little while.

Do you still have the old cartridge that you can try a few shots from to see if the numbers change?

Gabby's numbers did the same thing today. I'd ascribe it to the, "She's a cat." explanation or that like Gabby, Willie's pancreas got a little tired.

Went with the questionable pen this cycle and upped him to what I hope was a skinny 1.25 though who knows... it is hard enough for me to measure the skinny 1.0u, let alone a skinny in between lines dose!! We have the new pen waiting in the fridge. Hoping that it isn't the pen... We're only on the second day of use!

Just came from Petco and was very pleased with how easy it was to exchange items ordered online. Took back the BG Chicken and Quail... turns out it is really high in phosphorus, and with Willie's age, I just don't want to risk that. Also returned the big cans of Wellness chicken. The potato chunks concern me, especially since they appear to be white potatoes, and only sweet potatoes are on the ingredient list. I had mistakenly thought that Petco carried Evo, but they don't, so I ended up replacing the BG C&Q with BG Chicken and BG Turkey, and then got some medium and high carb foods (was low on high carb anyway!) to finish out the exchange. As long as you print the correct online receipt, everything is super easy.

Gotta get back to Willie. He is dining al fresca again this evening on the fire escape... have to make sure he isn't trying to move into any neighbors' apartments!!

I'm just curious where you found the info out about the phosphorous content of BG. I was just starting to transition Trixie from Wellness to BG because, like you, I was concerned about the Wellness carb/potato content since the recall. Her numbers have been so out of whack since I bougth that last case - I don't know if it's the food or coincidence. Is it just the BG C&Q that's problematic? I was moving to straight up 96% chicken (which I see you did get today...). At this point, Trixie's kidneys are fine, but naturally I want to keep them that way...

Thanks, Karrie! I took it tonight... he was sitting on the floor in front of the couch in this little patch of sun. had adjusted the brightness to make his face show, and it blacked out everything around him. I caught this shot just as a breeze blew through the house and he popped his head up for a sniff. :) I think it actually looks better as an avatar!!

As for the BG, I found the information in this post. When I initially read it, I was only looking at carb %. For some reason, I referred back to it again, and was shocked to find how high the phosphorus was in the C&Q recipe. As you can see, the chicken and the turkey are both much lower. Can't believe the C&Q is higher than the tuna!! Chicken and Turkey varieties it is! I would get the beef, but Willie doesn't tolerate beef fuds very well.

Well, Willie's numbers are finally improving. Looks like we may not have to waste a vial of insulin afterall!

ETA: Tonight's movie? The eternal classic The Princess Bride. I can clearly choose the glass not in front of me!

Glad to see Willie's numbers coming down and he hits green!!! YAY!!

Did I miss something somewhere on the Wellness??? Are they adding potatoes and upping the carbs???? I hope not because that is Gracie's staple food; I haven't noticed any potato pieces in her food at all.

Hi Christie & Willie, Much better numbers tonight for Willie. Interesting about the food. I think Wellness turkey has always had some small bits of potato in it (like, what might be in a mouse's stomach when the cat eats the mouse). I'm not going to worry about it. It's Rusty's staple food and he likes it a lot. I don't see why they would have changed the recipe if the only problem before the recall was the absence of thiamin. (B1)
I always wrap my insulin cartridges in small paper bags or bubble wrap and store them in little cardboard boxes in the fridge. That way I figure that the temperature around the insulin doesn't fluctuate as much when the fridge goes into its defrost mode. I also put one of those little hiking thermometers in the box.

I've been reading elsewhere that folks are noticing bigger chunks of stuff post-recall, and in this last large can, I found pinky tip size potato chunks and a lot of carrots as well. Willie likes it, but I prefer to give him foods in the 1-2% range anyway, so I decided to exchange the Wellness just in case. He also liked it a bit too much... showed far less enthusiasm for other canned foods and raw, making it hard to make changes.

Loving these numbers tonight! Guess Willie decided to stop stressin me out!!

Interesting on the wellness - Mannie will get the chicken or the turkey, and I too ahven't seen any chicks of anything in there. I use the 5.5 oz cans. hmmmm - will have to pay close attention the next time I open a can. I hope they haven't hanged their formula. I am with Ella in that I wonder why they would when all that was wrong was the thiamin problem.

Great night for Willie. Thanks for the info on the Wellness....haven't noticed any chunks of anything...but we use the 3 oz cans.

Also love the pic of Willie...VERY handsome. Ni NI!
