Skooter's Dental Day 1 - 04/01

Skooter is happily eating his breakfast while we speak. There was a little bit more blood I think in the fur along his mouth, but I am guessing that is fairly normal and to be expected as it hasn't been 24 hours yet since surgery/dental.

He did finally come to snuggle with me for a little bit early this AM, otherwise he has been happily sleeping in his cat bed, which is on my bed. He is using the three stairs that I have set up by the bed to get on the bed pretty darn well. I got just the smallest of looks into his mouth when I was giving him his two liquid meds (IBD and pain med).

A little BTB for me and I think I will test him at +1.5 and then go from there. I am impressed that from +8 last night to AMPS this morning he only went from 119 to 138, which I believe is within meter variance, so I am pleased.

Thank you again for all the well wishes and concerns yesterday, it means so much to me to know you all care so much about him and me as well.

So happy to see that Eddie hit green last night! I sure hope that this is the last step on his road to an OTJ trial! Go Eddie Go!

Yay that Skooter is eating. It sounds like he's doing pretty well. However, if you keep seeing blood, you may want to call the vet. I've never had that happen with any of mine, but it could just be because of the FORL and he had so much done. Don't panic about it. Just keep an eye on it. Sending healing prayers for Skooter.

Impressive! Max was in pink the night of his dental and it took me weeks to get him back on track. I think you might even see green today.:)

Max didn't bleed. I think I would call the vet today to see if that is to be expected.

Nice Skooter report...it sounds like he's already bouncing back!! Sending along a few extra healing vines....have a great day, Molly!

Wow, nice recovery on the BGs, Skooterbear! I'm glad you're starting to feel a little better.

Molly, he had so many extractions that the blood is probably normal, but I, too, would just check with my vet. Was it fresh or dried?

So we know how well Skooter is doing - how about the bean that went through all that stress?? Vines to both of you! :bighug:

So I was getting ready to call the vet, as the vet tech said they would call on Friday and I got a call from Skooter's regular vet. She just wanted to see how he was doing :)

I did ask about the blood and she said that is pretty normal for the first few days after the amount that he had extracted. She was very impressed with how well he is doing with his BG numbers. This is why I heart my vet, she didn't have to call, but she did. She normally is off on Wednesday but happened to be working yesterday and she said she was happy about that, so she could be there to check on him.

She said the blood is pretty normal for a couple of days after, especially with the amount that they took. She said when they were doing the cleaning they commented that it didn't look too bad, but when they did the xrays they saw the problems, so.

As for the bean....I am feeling a bit more relieved this morning. I will not lie, when I got him home and he was as wonky as he was, getting three of his four legs in the litter box and getting stuck, walking with his front paws bent and falling over all the time, I did get a little worried, ok A LOT worried. And then we had our first thunderstorm of the season and Skooter HATES them.:eek::( But I just turned the tv up and we were pretty good. I did get about 4 hours of straight sleep and then I was up for most of the night/morning, so took at nap again. I am tired, but relieved that he is doing so well. I am glad I took today off to be with him as I think I would have been a mess had I tried to work....I think I will have a heard enough time tomorrow as I have meetings all day and will not be able to check on him. I am thinking he will be ok to be able to roam free tomorrow as he seems much more steady.....

Here is a sheet they gave me to show me what toofers they took (black) and what toofers will be next (red):

You'd be amazed how well they do without teeth - especially when they don't eat dry food! Sasha is missing all but one of her teeth on the bottom front. Her biggest problem is that she takes too much food in her mouth at a time and some of it falls out through the hole! :joyful:

Too bad you'll have to go t through this again, but at least you know what to expect. Hopefully it will be easier on you the next time.

I'm glad you're home with Skooter. I hope you can get another nap in - I'm sure he will! Sending mouth healing vines.

More fast healing vines going your way. :bighug: Nice numbers today and yeah for appy!

Neko agrees that Tstorms are evil.

Good progress for Mr. Skooter! :) It is distressing to see them so wobbly, that anesthesia takes a long time to clear. More vines coming your way.

Glad he's doing well today - his blood sugar is pretty impressive!

He'll get used to the lack of teeth - kitties seem to figure it out pretty fast.

I went with a little less food for each meal tonight, as I think giving him his "normal" amount today was a bit much.....I figure if he wants more, he will let me know....he just finished eating and how now climbed into my lap :)

So I don't want to stress him out by giving him a full bath (he has never had one), but he did pee on himself yesterday, can I just use a wet cloth or should I be getting some sort of kitty soap?

I think so too. You don't want him licking some chemical off his fur. It is very impressive how well Skooter is doing. I'm glad that you don't have to worry about a little blood and I hope that you both will have a good night.
Healing vines!!

Poor lil guy....when he goes to yawn, he can't do a full on yawn....I am guessing it is probably still a little sore for him. He seems to be doing well tonight and has even come to snuggle with me a bit. I am glad I am giving him less food tonight, as I think he still isn't 100% keen on eating. Again, I am super impressed with how well he is already adjusting to eating without his toofers anymore....

It is so stupid because, I just think he is even more adorable now without them. It is also stupid as I am just getting super emotional over him right now and just can't believe how much I love this lil guy. He has been through so much the past six weeks, between his constipation and now this. He is such a lil trooper and amazes me to no end.

Yay Skooter, he is doing so well. Vyktor had a little bleeding after his last lot of mouth work (first time we've had bleeding) vet said not to be concerned unless it was fresh and plentiful. I also get quite emotional when he's all vulnerable. You think you couldn't possibly love them any more, and then somehow you do :cat:
