Also having troubles with civvie, Baby Kitty. He had the pancreatitis attack back in November and his diet was changed. He is a kibble addict, but I I have been getting him to eat MC kibbles and a little canned or raw each day, but his personality has been changing. He is getting even more weird and spazzy! And he is having more hairball upchucks just seems off to me (a mama knows). I am worried about hyperT or something going on with him and I feel guilty bcuz Taffy gets all of my attention and available vet care money. Feeling guilty.

In yesterday's condo you asked:
So, nobody thinks that a short acting or other insulin would be something I should try with Taffy? What reasons are other types of insulin used?

Replying here on the today's post. There are a couple techniques you can try yet. One I mentioned yesterday is to feed a little higher carb food, so you can increase the insulin, which can flatten him out a bit. He needs to spend more time in green to get used to it.

Taffy is a bouncy kitty, sometimes cats just like to bounce. Neko was one of those. We do suggest giving an insulin 6 months to see if it works for you. One thing you could try is going to Levemir - some cats (but not all) go flatter on Levemir. Neko did and she got a bit more predictable. Or maybe I just was more experienced by then. :p The one thing with Lev is that the onset and nadir are later, typical is +4 onset and +8 nadirs. Neko was later for both. Not all schedules can accomodate monitoring those. I lucked out that I am up at what was +9 and often nadir time for rowing 3/4 days a week. But I usually couldn't get a test at onset before bed so it took a little more experimentation to figure out if I had to set alarms at night. I wouldn't think a short acting insulin would be appropriate in this case. We typically suggest it for high dose cats or those with ketones in the picture.

Sending vines for Baby Kitty. :bighug: Mixing kibble and raw in a diet is not a good thing. They take different lengths of time to digest and that can cause tummy upset. How often is he giving you hairballs?

Thank you! I just want to have knowledge of different insulins to discuss when we see the Dr.

We are just about at 6 months, end of April.

I am going to research Levemir more, thanks!

Would be trickier to figure out. Taffy would probably run late, too. But maybe it would work for us if I adjusted T/F/S times an hour or two.

I know, but I am trying to transition him off the kibbles! I give him only about a tsp. of raw with his brekkie and dinner, currently. He was somewhat eating the Rx i/d canned stew, but I suspect this may be the prob. It's pretty gross! He is eating his small amount of raw well, and I am planning to increase slowly.

We have had 2-4 per week for a couple weeks.

Thanks for your response on this! May I ask, what was Neko's diet prior to FD? And after Dx?

Taffy gave me a 79 @ +2.5, just as I had to leave for the afternoon. So I gave him a snack, left extra, and so that I would feel more assured, I gave him a little kibble (Orijen), about 8-10 kibble pieces. I felt relatively sure that this would keep him out of danger while I was out. I am pretty sure he went lower after that, and he was only up to 143 when I got home. His PMPS was in the yellow again, but hoping he gets no higher tonight.

Going to give this a good try first b4 considering a new insulin. @Jill & Alex (GA) posted the link to more info about his, as well as shooting techniques. Going to read up! Thank you, All!!!

I don't see a today's thread yet, so will respond to your question here. Before do, Neko was primarily eating Wellness LC and a bit of Evo dry. I had already found Dr. Lisa's website and was trying to get her to lose weight. She had been on the LC Wellness a long time, but I was reducing the Evo amount to a T a day. After dx we first completely eliminated dry then went to raw.
