Good Morning, Everyone,

We finally have sunshine and it may get up into the 40s today!!! Rusty had a good night and typical morning thus far: good test, pretty good shot (although it may have been a fat .50 instead of a skinny .75), 2 sittings of breakfast, and now a nap in his basket next to the radiator. I just got back from taking DH to his yoga class and found our neighbor's cat sitting under the birdfeeder. He is a small black short-haired kitty with a full, fluffy tail and his name is "Shadow"; he's very friendly, but I don't want to encourage him because of Rusty's history of not getting along well with other cats. So I said hello to him and that was that. Then he sat at the door, looking at me! What to do?? I think Shadow will be out all day, because his papabean works. I'll have to keep a close eye on Rusty when I take him out.

Have a good day, everyone, and we send healing vines and positive thoughts for kitties and beans who could use them,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 4/19 Rusty AMPS 115

Morning guys! Sounds like a good day starting out for you!

We have a pesky neighbor cat that used to preclude me taking Tilei(GA) out. I got in the habit of walking the yard to make sure he wasn't around and then carried a spray bottle of water to ward him off if he did show. Tilei hated other cats, hated them. She was trained to walk on a leash if she wanted to go outside.

Good Morning, Ella. Finally got some sun, huh? Send some down here, please.
I saw your comment about Rusty's weight, in Ann and Tess' condo. I didn't realize he was so big. :-D

I hope you and Rusty enjoy your time out in the sun, without little Shadow annoying your boy.

Re: 4/19 Rusty AMPS 115

yay for sunshine! i'd probably try to discourage little shadow from being around your birdfeeder anyway. we don't like them to become kitty feeders! ;-) the squirt bottle sounds like a smart idea!

now i have to go find out how big of a moose Mr Rusty is!

Re: 4/19 Rusty AMPS 115

So, Rusty doesn't play well with others! My kitties are fine with each other, despite a few hissy fits between the ladies now and then. Love to feed the birds. I have a red fox who is systematically eliminating the squirrel population around the feeder. It's like shooting fish in a barrel for him. Beautiful animal. Wonder what his BG was today

Re: 4/19 Rusty AMPS 115

a little killing machine, eh?

rusty's not so big - he, mannie & punkin are all in the Big Boy pants, but not moose category. My felix (ga) was 24 lbs. He was a moose. when he stood on you in hurt, because all of that weight went down the 4 tiny feet and was concentrated right on little spots on you!

Re: 4/19 Rusty AMPS 115

Great day For Mr. Rusty!! Look at him go!
Could you send that fox over here??? We have some very tasty pigoens at our bird feeders & he's wlecome to them...Hope you see green soon, in Rusty AND outside!! Flowers will be up soon

Re: 4/19 Rusty AMPS 115

I have a BIG BOY who is still a civvie. And when he stands on me, you're right, it hurts! Hopefully with the hi pro/lo carb diet that they're all on, he'll lose some weight and I won't have to dance with him!

Re: 4/19 Rusty AMPS 115

Lovely start of the day for Rusty. I hope he gets some outside time soon without the presence of Shadow!! Have a great day!!

Rusty..you bringing fresh fish today? Daddybean bought fresh tortillas and we can have grilled fish tacos!!! Yum!!! See you soon.

Re: 4/19 Rusty AMPS 115

Hi again, We just came back inside after about an hour. Rusty likes to take his time and doesn't listen to me when I want him to come in. But when he realizes that I really want him inside, he charges down the steps to the door!! (I used to say "hurry, hurry" to Stu, but Rusty hasn't learned yet that it means "let's go back inside"!) Earlier we were out for just a few minutes when Shadow emerged. Rusty didn't see him and I was able to get Rusty inside before he realized Shadow was there! Rusty is twice as large as Shadow.
Beth, thanks for the suggestion of the spray bottle of water. I'm going to take one with me from now on when we go out.

Before he came to live with us Rusty was in multiple-cat households (first as a foster with Claudia and quite a few other kitties, then with Phoebe and her kitties). As I understand it, he doesn't like living with other cats and tends to be aggressive towards them. But it may also be that he just wants to play and is a bit rough. (Phoebe had to keep him isolated because he pounced on her elderly cats if he got the chance!).

Ella

p.s. I don't worry about the birds. They are very aware of everything that goes on around them. They are mostly chickadees, and they make a racket when they see a "foe", as do the squirrels.

Re: 4/19 Rusty AMPS 115

Another beautiful Rusty cycle! Maybe being outside in more neutral territory and w/ a young cat it will be just play. Tess was an in / out cat until some new cats moved in and started cornering her. Now she is indoors only and can be brave through the screens. I've gotten the pet proof screen for the patio door, it needed it. I was weeding out in the yard the other day and something made me look up, there was Mr. Orinch looking at me through a space between the boards. I haven't seen him since last fall.

Re: 4/19 Rusty AMPS 115, +5.5 83

Glad to hear Rusty is doing so well.

If Shadow interacts with Rusty, they'll probably be OK - I don't think Rusty is mean, so much as he is big and playful. Maybe introductions on leash since Shadow is outside?

Two of my cats would run and he would chase them. Rusty is bigger than both of them together.

My alpha cat would then get involved to make Rusty stop chasing them.

My diabetic Tiggy has cataracts and couldn't see Rusty winding up to pounce -- again I think it was mainly playful, but since Tiggy couldn't see him - he was taken by surprise and reacted in fear and instinctively would lash out.

Anyway - it is very possible that Rusty would be fine with younger active cats that are not shy and want to play too.

Morning guys!

What a nice start Rusty - you always have the best numbers! Looks like you will be at the green lagoon this morning too. YAY!

It will be interesting to see how Rusty handles the new little Shadow. Might be OK if it's just a see you in the yard type of thing. I like the spray bottle idea too. Good luck! It sounds like Rusty is having a good time learning about his yard. I hope that he figures out what hurry means soon.

enjoy your day guys! and paddles coming up?

Rusty - dude!!! Sweet on the fresh fish! I've been working on a fish rub, so we can try it out. It'll be prefect for fish tacos! See you at Gracie's! ~~ Mannie

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the support. Phoebe, nice to hear from you. I think that Rusty mainly wants to play, too. He is such a sweet kitty, I can't imagine him deliberately attacking unless he felt threatened. We just woke him up from his afternoon nap to test him. Now he's eating his +9 snack.

Just got back from 12 miles on my clunky ancient mountain bike, on local streets. The village is finally dealing with the winter sand and the roads are much better for bicycling. I might even be able to go out on one of my road bikes soon. Gotta do a little work on them first, however.

Hi guys .. I hope that rusty and shadow can learn to be friends ... mocha is VERY territorial of her yard and any predators that might dare to enter .. I have never seen a cat act like that before mocha ...
