This past week has not been one of Bear's best. His appetite has vanished. While his numbers have been gradually worsening lately, a few days ago he was up in the mid-300's. I think his 358 on 4/15 may have been close to a record high for him. To add insult to injury, on that day when his pm number was so high, I had to shoot the first of a series of late shots at +15, due to my work schedule. I had to change from days to evenings, and it is totally messing up our insulin/binder/other med schedule. The phos binder schedule is completely out the window, due to the requirement to space it out 2 hours from other meds. To make a long story longer, I increased his insulin dose from fat .5 to .75. I really don't like to see his insulin needs going up at this stage in his career. It is also nerve wracking to shoot a high (for him) dose and leave for 12 hours, knowing he may not eat. In a few more days I have to do an equally ugly transition back to normal schedule, then repeat all this next week.
Theories for the high numbers:
1) His oral methyl cobalamin is upsetting his tummy - I am eliminating it for now
2) When he does eat, he is favoring his renal kibble over canned
3) He has some infection brewing
4) IBD/CP flare
5) He and Teddy have some bug - Teddy is also vomiting and inappetant this week.
Loose poo, vomiting, house soiling, disorientation, restlessness, inappetance ... not a good Bear Man week.
