Good Morning Lantus Land,

Healing vines going out to all our kitty's this morning.

More windy weather for today.

The cats playing this morning woke me up along with Dr. Pinkus and his Vitamin C infomercial on the radio. The pain in my shoulder/pectoral region has relented a bit, but it is still present. Few hours yet until I can dose myself again.

Last night Gary got some living room time. He wandered and explored a bit and then decided to try out some lap time! He seemed to enjoy his lap pets, but by the time he decided to lay down...he was ready to leave too. Attie and MudCat were barricaded from the living room. I let Gary visit in the LR for as long as he pleased. He tested out the chairs for comfort, checked window heights, and calculated the leap height of the barrier. He discovered the toy basket and I pulled out a few toys for him. He actually attempted some mouse play!(first playtime he has exhibited in 8 weeks)/ The wiggle worm and etc. scared him. He eventually returned to the bedroom. I didn't close the door on him, but simply placed the baby gates up in the access way. Took down the other barricade to allow MudCat and Attie entry.

Attie went straight to the gates and I placed toys near the gate hoping to encourage happy/pleasant interaction. Attie was quick to play with the toys fetching them back from under that gate with his claws. His quick movements though seemed to unsettle Gary who resorted to a back off and a loud hiss, "as if to say...darn it you went and ruined it." Attie nosed up to the gate as if to ask, "what's your problem and I was just having fun." Soon two cats were laying on one side of the gate watching Gary who was laying on the other side of the gate....

I find that last note important, as up until now they really haven't been terribly interested in each other. The laying down where they could all see each other indicates they are all exerting a silent right to be here. It isn't acceptance, but it is telling the other I know you are here...and so am I.

Another great report! I always look forward to reading about how the integration is going! Great cycles for atlas is well! have a great day!

Re: 4/17 Atlas 168

Sounds like progress....we aren't expecting a Kumbaya moment really, right? So, lying if full view of each other with a gate in between is pretty darn good progress! Hope you feel better and better as the day progresses.......

Re: 4/17 Atlas 168

What a great report. It really does sound like progress, and maybe a little territory staking, maybe a little acceptance. I think is is great that they can lay there looking at one another without any nastiness. Way to go guys!

Nice start for Attie today too. YAY!

Official Kitty Warning:

It is that time of year again. We're shedding and matting. Da' bean has it in her head she gonna get them der matt's if it is the last thing she does today. Well I iz havin' no parts of cooperatin wid dis idear.

Lowz and beholdz she done figured out how to makes me my ownz muzzle. Dang it I can't see as to where to swipe her ats! It sure done is not fairz nors funz! Tugs and slow strokes and partin' da furz .... 15 minutes later I done think she took off my kitty coats fur surez....

All you long hair catz out der...bewarez ...~~Attie

The muzzle kept Attie off his mark and I was able to comb, brush, and demat him with a lot less stress. Attie doesn't bite at all, but he will take a serious swipe at you. The muzzle throws them off just enough to keep the claws at bay. He sat still most of the time or backing up into me instead of turning to swipe or struggling to run away.

Re: 4/17 Atlas 168, +6 162

Day two free roaming encounter...

MudCat decides she is going to get up and try to sneak up on Gary...

She does this with most foster cats I've brought in to the house. She isn't being mean, but just wants to sniff without a frontal confrontation. Gary being a nervous kitty turns on her and we have an immediate hissfest. Attie comes flying off the daybed to intervene...

I snagged Attie and he was growling. Low growl ...the kind you can only feel and not hear. Cats can hear it, but humans can't.

So back to gated separation. We patch things up with some shared easy cheese at the gate. Attie and Gary all purrs and sharing licking my fingers. MudCat looking on with eyes as big as baseballs.

Checking the Easy Cheese label and see it is nearly all milk, milk solids, or whey. Don't see any sugars in it, so we'll see how it affects Attie's BG.

Attie is looking great and it sounds like you are doing wonderful with the intro. That's great that they all sat on either side of the gate last night. Hopefully more progress today!

Hey Beth, That is quite an operation you've got going there: Kitty Civility 101. Now class, take notes. Quiz is tomorrow!

Looks like a flat blue day for Attie.
Thanks for the tip about the paper cup. Rusty doesn't have any mats yet, but he may later this spring and that trick might work. Our Alice (GA) had seborrhea (sp?) and we used to separate the mats by pulling them apart with our fingers (or else take her to be shaved, which she hated).

Have a fine day,
Ella & Rusty

Well I have to be cautious as Gary is FIV+.

OOOpppss...guess that easy way out with the easy cheese was a no no...

well it was only a few fingertips, this should pass

oh ouch on the easy cheese....bummer, as what a nice solution! love the dematting muzzle. I will give that try. Mannie just hates the coming and he can mat so badly, resulting in WWIII. Right now I separate them with my fingers, pulling them apart, at least that he will tolerate.

Love the meet and greet, I think that they will eventually get there. And I know on the FIV+. Been there with that one too.

Attie - DUDE! man thanks for letting us come to your place for our full moon party you are a lifesaver! See you soon. ~~ Mannie

They are lucky to have such a loving, compassionate and patient bean.

Thanks for the cup tip also. The big white foster has mats so badly on his belly and where his legs join his body he bites if you even touch them. I think I'm going to take him to a vet to be shaved in these areas. The cup tip is very smart though, thanks for sharing.

That's impressive.....Believe me...I know. I would kill to get my kitty to do this. In time. In time.

You are doing such a great job w/them......Maybe I should fly you down to Houston to help me out with my two.
