time for another update on the gang
Wheezer:
since our talk with dawn many months ago, wheezer has been treating the boys so much better. only tosses out the occasional hisss.
sadly he still remains on insulin despite my prayers and hopes But, I do have him back to 0.05u TID. every now and then I have to give him a tad more only cause he may bounce and I need bring him back to earth rather quickly. do not want him to get used to being up in nose bleed territory.
Mr. Beasley:
remains the loving dutiful cat. I swear he must have been a dog in his previous life. he comes when called to the point if he is going one way and I call him, he immediately turns around and comes. But this guy is so food motivated, I bet I could get him to jump through hoops. clickable video
Having a hard time understanding his insulin needs. I do have him down to .6u. I have tried decreasing by .25 but seems as though he needs drops to come down. sadly, I need to test more frequently to see what he is doing. I can get a good nadir but seems as though I cannot get his PS down to greens. I thought for sure once he got onto wet food and teeth taken care of, I would have a broken kitty here. But alas, that is not the case. even with the .6u, he needs a snack to keep from dropping to low. now I know I could drop insulin even more but he so looks forward to those snacks. he is getting less for those snacks (+2 or +3), so I am trying to wean it down some. depending on AMPS, I may give a tsp before I leave for work cause never know when mom gets up to give AM snack.
still a work in progress.
Twinkie:
what a turn around he has had. been bringing him into LR to mingle with other cats. he really does not like it and tends to stay in one spot watching. will fall asleep and purr when I pet him so I am thinking he is finally starting to feel a little more comfy in his surroundings with other cats. I have him sleeping in there with me. He still prefers by himself though. he will now follow me around to some degree and will now come (more or less) when I call him.
I have him down to .4u and just like Beasley, having a hard time understanding his needs also. he also cannot tolerate huge decreases so we are doing it in .1u.
continues with weepy eyes. sometimes they are clear and other times they are runny. continues on the lysine. I think some of that may be stress related that causes the herpes to flare. remains on prozac 1/4 tab QD. I think I can probably give every other day but since I am bringing him in to LR to integrate with other cats, there is no reason to rush to get him off. it is such a small amount and has worked a miracle in his case. no more licking or biting himself. I can even pet him now with out a reaction. he used to try and bite you and/or start licking himself or in mid air. so , his improvement there has been quite dramatic.
I personally am so glad I have a part in saving their lives. they are so worthy of that. such loving cats.It would have been so sad to have had their lives ended knowing how special they turned out to be. what a loss to the world it would have been.
Beasley just amazes me with his intelligence. Twinkie does need a little more attention and understanding but OH so worth it. Truly amazing cats. so well behaved and such good manners. I just cannot say enough good things about them
A few cute pics in their pi's. these guys love being together

this is where they sleep next to me when in LR
