Guess I won't be shootin' the lows today. I am meeting with our 'New Vet' on Monday AM. A friend of ours is friends with a vet in the next town who is supposed to great. I won't be bringing Gus, this is just a meet and greet for me. I don't really have an app't, I'll be slipped in the back door just to be introduced to this guy and give him my kitties' histories. I'll make Gus' first app't before I leave. As for our 'old' vet, neither he nor his staff has called in 3 weeks to see how Gus is doing. I suppose I could call him, but I have all the great people here to give Gus all the helps he needs right now. But, I'll check this vet out because I know that we need one for general care. I wonder what he knows about Lantus or how much he's willing to learn. Should be interesting. I never interviewed a vet before.

i'll be curious as to what you think of him. finding new caregivers for kitties or people is always a bit daunting.

gus is still on the scale, despite his bouncy bounce! he'll come back down. enjoy your saturday!

I'm accepting that my sweetie is just a bouncy kind of guy. So, as the liver becomes more and more accustomed to lower numbers, it stops trying to maintain the higher ones. Once the BG#s stay in a low enough range, what happens to the dose at that time? Is it decreased? Is that how a sugar kitty 'earns' a reduction?

Now I'm wondering if Champ is going to bounce tomorrow...or even tonight. Geez, I hope not. I need one good day!! I know you know what I'm talking about. Everytime I look at Gus' spreadsheet, I wonder how you deal with it. You must be very strong.

And the nanner only cost $5.99 at Petsmart! How awesome is that? :-D

Until he showed that he could move into low #s, I was really worried and a lot sad for him. But, now I know that someday he will get better. Today, with the really high numbers, he's acting very tired and lethargic. His body knows the difference between 500 and 170. His behavior shows it. He's been staying really close by and just staring at me. I wish I could do something more than just wait.

that's usually when I can't help crying...when Champ is so lethargic and sleepy and I know all I can do is wait for the time to give him his next shot. I hate it when I can't fix something.

For a bit of encouragement, take a peek at Willie's spreadsheet, and look at where he was when he started... and where we are today. :) While we were never at Gus' numbers, we had our share of icky numbers. January was not a happy time, and it was even more frustrating because while out of town with Willie over Christmas, I saw what he had the potential to do... and then we went the other way. Then we were doing great, and Daylight Savings happened in March and suddenly, we were seeing too much pink... and even some red.

I know that wanting to cry moment far too well.... and most of the time, I did my best to hold it back and be happy for him. And then one day, things started happening. And then they happened more. And suddenly, things are going really good. And any day now, he might change his mind and decide to wear pink again, and we will roll with it. And it is all okay. I know how easy it is to feel discouraged and just wanted to say... have faith. Gus and Champ will both get to healthier consistent numbers!!

I checked out Willie's SS and see that you struggled quite a bit, too. I know Gus will get better and I've learned to be slow and patient. I just wish it was quick and quicker! I'm sure everyone understands. We all share an experience or we wouldn't be here.

Hi Bev - that is so true. patience is hard, but worth the attempt. Mannie and I sure have had our good times and our bad. His SS is a kaleidoscope of colors. Things have gradually evened out some. YAY! It will get better for Gus. Hang in there with him. yep, it will get better.

And for another challenge a la Mannie, look at Gracie's SS. Even Jill, Libby, and Sienne said she's a challenge. Thankfully (antijinx) she had very few red numbers but some. She's been a very bouncey girl and you'll see that even though she's coming down the scale a little fast now, she's still doing some bouncing. Jill told me that her Alex (who was OTJ for four years) was still bouncing two weeks before she went OTJ. So you never know with Gus. He may be like Willie and stop bouncing fairly quickly or he may be like Mannie, Tess, and Gracie and bounce until the cows come home. Another awesome SS is Mocha's (PeterDevonMocha). She was on insulin for 22 months with bounces everywhere and then all of a sudden....SNAP...she stopped bouncing and within three weeks was OTJ. Amazing. So remember...there is so much hope...hang on and keep up your awesome attitude, Bev.

Now Gus...how about some nice numbers tonight?
 
A little better. He's acting better too. Off to bed now. Giving thanks that Gus responds to this insulin and that he and I found this board. That's really to be thankful for. And tomorrow's another day.
 
I was going to suggest Mocha's SS as well - talk about a bouncy girl and look where she is now! :mrgreen: There are days when I wish I would be like so many of the people I have met through work with diabetic cats who never test bg...don't worry about late or missed shots etc. Must be nice to be so blissfully ignorant of what is going on! Of course their the ones who end up with a severe hypo and never saw it coming too. :roll: Keep up with it, Gus will get there eventually!
 
i love everyone sharing their stories. when you come in it looks like most of the cats are on tiny doses and fairly stable, so it helps to know that all of them have an adjustment phase before they get to the "good" phase.

thanks for all the encouragement! even though this isn't punkin's condo, i'm reading and learning too.

time to head for bed!
