Hi there, have you purchased a tube of antibiotic ointment? I always use that for Luci's ears after the poke. I use the warmed rice in the sock to support her ear for the poke itself. She likes that warm sock...I often rub it on her back before the poke for a little massage...calms her for a moment...she has decided that she likes the flavor/smell of the antibiotic ointment - I don't know why - but she over there trying to lick the tube and it keeps her occupied for the poke ... she doesn't much care for all the poking and unfortunately we're frequent pokers. There's another salve that you can use, but I thought the antibiotic ointment (store brand, Walmart, etc.) seemed to stay on better. I also press the area with a kleenex folded for several seconds to squelch the bleeding and it seems to minimize bruising/soreness as well...at least I think it does. Every now and then she does get a sore spot on her right ear - and when that happens I try not to poke that spot or will use her left ear for several pokes and let that right ear rest a spell...

Have you see the video on testing and/or the photo of the close up sweet spot on the ear? I found those very helpful as well.

Best to you as you continue to treat/test Biscuits :)

Thanks for the great advice. It's just so many pokes on those little ears!!!
What size lancets are you using? After I got used to the poking, I switched to 31 - larger number = smaller needles...and I use a meter that requires only the tiniest drop (the OneDrop).

After a while I switched to the Onetouch Delica lancer, 33 gauge, so even smaller than what Sue uses.

Plus I studied my spreadsheet a lot to figure out how I could minimize the number of tests. Some people here are real testaholics. I had to cross border shot for test strips, so I tried to be frugal with tests. For example, once you see Biscuits numbers have started to rise during the cycle, you can wait until next preshot to test. Especially while he is still in relatively high numbers. Save the data gathering pokes until his numbers are lower overall. For example, yesterday you could have stopped testing at +3.

By the way, I don’t see any tests after preshot last night. If you are going to fast track increases every four cycles, you have to get a second test every cycle, or else delay the increase.

Thank you for the tips
I didn't get a test last evening because his ears were so bad ,I just couldn't poke him. Today's going better. I had used 31 lancets then changed to 29 . I can go back to the 31. Warming the ears is helping too.
I'd be lost without all of your excellent experience and information.

I bought baby washcloths and would get one wet with cold water to press on her ear after the poke. I also gave her 30C Arnica....three small tablets in a tiny bit of filtered water. When they dissolve, give orally with a syringe three times a day.

Have a good night!

I agree, I lightly squeeze the area for several seconds, after the poke.I use the 100% cotton squares ( like for makeup) they are thicker than tissue.
I also use organic coconut oil & rub it onto his ears. I test frequently & he was losing the fur on his ears. Since I started using Coconut oil the fur has grown back.

Good Luck :)
