4/14/ Pumbaa -- AMPS 326 -- +6 300 -- PMPS 372

I love that his AMPS is down to 326 instead of up in the red. So, after 5 doses of insulin, his numbers are back to where they were when he was diagnosed. I'm taking this as a good sign that the insulin is working, and his body is responding to it. Hoping to see some blue numbers today, too!

Would today be a good day to do a 2-hour curve, or should I wait a few days and see how his numbers are progressing? There has been so much stress around here in the last 2 weeks that I'm trying not to stick the little guy any more than I have to, so would like to not do a curve until the time is perfect.

And don't forget that the numbers in the middle will be better than at AMPS, and if you want to do a curve, it would be great. Seeing how he's doing mid cycle and looking for his nadir is a good idea because you may need to change his dose once you see how he's doing. I always tried to do a curve or get extra tests here and there, just to know how it's really going.

How's Pumbaa doing and acting lately with the steady dose? Look,for him eating OK and drinking OK and cleaning and purring, plus watch for changes in litterbox for normal amounts of urine and regular stool.

I hope you guys have a great cuddly day doing your curve; I bet Pumbaa will love the extra attention.

Gayle, I feel like you've adopted me and Pumbaa, and I so appreciate it you have no clue! :YMHUG:

Pumbaa is actually acting more normal since yesterday afternoon. He groomed himself immediately after last night's 6 pm feeding and again after this morning's feeding. I hadn't seen him do that in ages! And his eating is more normal as well...he's not hoovering up every bit of food in sight. After his shots, I actually have had to bring him back to his food to make sure he has eaten enough since he usually walks away right after I've given him the shot. I've been scooping the litter box every day instead of every other day, and things seem more normal in there, too.

After yesterday's cat fight (Pumbaa was in red numbers yesterday, so he probably didn't feel very good when Larry wanted to play), I think I'll wait a day and do the curve tomorrow. Hopefully we will have a very calm, relaxed day around here today, instead of the insanity of the last few weeks. All pets will get extra attention and loving today!

And there you have it! I am so excited to hear that you are beginning to see your old Pumbaa back!
So often, we don't see when habits disappear, but we sure do appreciate them when they return!
You are seeing his transition from a sick unregulated kitty, to your old Pumbaa, and I bet you are just thrilled.

You have witnessed the change in his attitude at different numbers, and also his appetite when unregulated and once he's feeling a bit better. A good example is that you may want to keep Pumbaa away from others when his numbers are high because he is not feeling too sociable!

The most telling action is his walking away AFTER his shot; he knows it makes him feel better and once he's got his juice, he is off to do his preferred cat stuff, maybe sleeping? While I wanted my guys to eat a bit at shot times, I did not force them to eat a whole meal but instead just left their wet food out and they came to eat when they felt the need.

Cats are pretty smart fellas; they learn quickly that tests mean treats, and at certain times the tests mean shots and food, which both make the cats feel better. Those connections make the whole process easier as time goes on. My Shadoe used to appear out of nowhere when it was around +3 or some other test time; it was almost eerie, as if she knew it was time.

Any testing is good. You don't have to always do a full day curve; you can test here and there because every single test will add to the picture.
