Re: 4/14 Max AMPS 170+3=151+5=82+6=89+7=75
Don't worry about the typos. I've seen some that I've made that really drive me crazy. The good news is that no one calls me out on them (at least yet)!
I went back and looked at my SS to try to make sure I included what/how we fed Jersey. I think it's pretty accurate, although I don't have all of the food for the past few days entered yet. Jersey was diagnosed in November, just like Max was. The vet put her on Hill's W/D dry without insulin for several months. He said that just making that food change alone might be enough to bring her into remission. If I had only known then what I know now. :-x Before that, Jersey was free fed Meow Mix dry. (Again, if I had only known....)
When I found FDMB, I switched the crew to canned only. In the beginning, I think I tried every single brand of low-carb canned out there. She ate Spot's and Wellness Core for a while but rejected pretty much everything else. She has now rejected Spot's, too. She'll only eat Wellness.....if that's her only option. She's become quite the little FF junky. :YMSIGH:
Really regulating her food intake just wasn't something I ever could do. For the past couple of months, I've been feeding Jersey pretty much at will. If she seemed hungry, I would put out a can of food. If she only ate a few bites, that was okay. If she wanted to eat more than that, I was okay with that, too. If there was any food left over (which wasn't often with three cats in the house), I just left it out for her to graze on. The only time when I absolutely would not feed was during the two hours before AMPS and PMPS. I also tried not to feed as much after nadir, but I couldn't seem to deny Jersey food when she seemed hungry. (I'm such a wuss!) I had basically starved her for a couple of months on the W/D, and I felt super guilty about that. (I still do.) It's also really hard for me to deny her food when I understand that my own food needs change from day to day. Some days, I'm hungrier than other days. Some days, I'm hungry at different times than others. I figure cats are probably like that, too, so I just feed "whenever." Jersey has done really well with that (knock on wood). It's been a huge issue with civie Petey, though. He has gained a lot of weight in the past couple of months. Once we give Jersey's pancreas a bit more time to heal with frequent, small meals, I'm going to have to try to cut back on some of the feedings - or simply lock Petey up when the others eat.
I wish I had some magic formula that would help Max. I know a lot of people here play around with food amounts, times, etc. to see if one thing will work better than another. In truth, I don't know that our feeding schedule had anything to do with Jersey's regulation. I think we've just been extremely blessed.
Anyway....take our experience for what it's worth! :YMHUG:
