Just dropping by to give an Alex update----And Jackson too of course. To me, they are one and the same. Diabetes or not, they are brothers and litter mates and they are one.
Aside from very bad neuropathy, Alex has been doing well (unjinx) knock wood. All p's are in order and he is even back to jumping on his windowsill and viewing the world outside. This would not be so thrilling if I had not been told that he had 3 months to live by a cardio doc two years ago today. He is sitting next to me as I write this and all I can think is 'there but for the grace of G-d go I"
Jackson too has developed HCM this year...worse than Alex.I was again told 3-4 months in December so I'm still shaky on this. He has everything Alex has except diabetes and he has a terribly hard time emptying his bowels. I have tried everything but he strains so hard and this has caused some problems with his rectum. He has lost a tremendous amount of muscle mass in the last year. And I don't want him to strain too hard because of his heart so I give him mineral oil enemas which sometimes help and sometimes don't so he's at the vet at least once a week getting the kind that DOES help and he's good for 4 or 5 days.Good thing is that he eats like a pony.
And they are both happy. And as long as they are both happy and interested and engaged...well so am I. They are the loves of my life and I am so lucky to be spending another birthday with them.
This board has been filled with incredible sadness lately. It hurts me to read it sometimes. My deepest sympathies are with Carolyn and Tena. My prayers and thoughts are with everyone that is scared or suffering a loss or just feels that they could use a little 'help'. I feel that way often lately. And I would not have gotten through some of these times without your support and I am sure I will need it again. You are among the most knowledgeable and kindest people in the world. I'm so honored to be part of this group even though I've been too stressed and busy too do a daily condo lately.
Again thank you...I don't think I'd be celebrating this birthday with Alex and Jackson if I had not found you guys!
Love,
Caryl, Alex & Jackson
A photo that Carolyn made on their birthday last year when she was more light-hearted. Life changes too damned quickly <sigh> We will never forget BigMac!!!! Love you Carolyn xoxo
