Hi. Max is not yet regulated since diagnosis in November. He was on CD for several years after blocking at age 5. When he became inappetent about 4 1/2 years ago and diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis I was told no more dry food. He needed to lose at least a pond which he did. Since diabetes hit I have been feeding him fancy feast classics. I wax just reading about Young Again and wonder if I should try it. I worry about weight gain again as well as giving high phosphorus food to a 16 1/2 year old cat. Is anyone using this food with good results?

Hey Elise,

We bought Young Again several weeks ago to have as a "just-in-case" food if we had to travel, etc. Jersey will eat a few bites here and there but really isn't interested in it otherwise. She's eaten so little of it, in fact, that I haven't been able to determine how it would affect her bg. The two indoor civies won't touch it at all. The two outdoor civies, though, seem to like it a lot. Of course, they don't get it often.

Someone asked about Young Again a while back. Here's the link to that post: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=114631&hilit=+young+again. The discussion got a little off topic, but several people mentioned that they had tried or were using Young Again. You might be able to PM them for more info if you don't get enough of a response here.

Wish I could be of more help!

You were of help, Shelly. Thank you. I won't buy it. Actually I worry about dehydration on dry food and Max used to be a dry food junkie. I guess he is like me and loves his carbs. I just read someone say her cat went immediately into remission on it and was looking for the quick cure or at least get Mr. Max regulated.

I'm definitely not trying to discourage you from buying it, Elise. Max may love it and respond really well to it. ECID, after all! :-D We just didn't personally have good luck with it. It's still nice to have around just in case, though. Someone had mentioned that Young Again would send free samples if you called them. That might be the best way to try it out rather than invest in a big bag of it. Just a thought!

I might just do that. My biggest concern is Max used to mostly eat dry and it wasn't good for him. I don't want to start bad habits. He gets his taste at dry with his freeze dried chicken. I think I best keep it that way. I've read about others that have to put a gravy YA sells on top of the food or their cats won't eat it. I don't like the idea of keeping dry food that has been moistened out as it can get spoiled. Thanks for the feedback Shelly.
