Good morning everyone! I am nervous about the ultrasound this afternoon. nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile
Tessie Lou continues to have the spasms/twitching in the lower quadrant, and her hind legs seem definitely weaker.

I'm wondering...if it's bad news (i.e., tumor), do you think they'll tell me right then and there? Or does it take awhile to "read" the results and you go home and they call you later?

I'll post when we get home and if we have results. Prayers and good vibes are most gratefully accepted...

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Ultrasound Question

Copper my civvie got had one & vet & tech did it, but I got the results the next day..
Sending Healing vines & strongest Prayers for Tessielou's good health!!
Could she have a back problem that is causing spasms??
Hope you get good news-will be praying for you! Comfort Hugs!!

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Ultrasound Question

It may depend on who's doing the ultrasound. If it's a vet who can read the results, you'll get the info. If someone does the procedure and they need a vet to interpret, there will be a wait.

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Ultrasound Question

Hi guys .. I don't blame you for being nervous, I would be as well .. I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers that you get answers quickly ..

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Ultrasound Question

Hi my Java had an ultrasound and it was done by a traveling radiologist. We had a prelim that day and I also got images on CD.

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Ultrasound Question

Sienne, the vet doing the ultrasound is a specialist at doing them and reading them, so sounds like I'll at least get a prelim today. Interestingly, my regular vet told me last night that the specialist just completed a Continuing Education course on none other than FELINE PANCREATITIS. So, that's a bit of luck.

Roni, I don't know about her back. It's possible, but I kinda think it's the neuropathy that so many of the kitties here seem to have.

Steph, thanks, I will ask about a CD. Just curious, what, if anything, did the ultrasound show up for Java?

Thanks Devon, we'll take all the help we can get!

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Ultrasound Question

I've always gotten my results the day of the ultrasound. I hope that Tessi Lou will be okay. sending healing vines her way. Take care.

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Ultrasound Question

Sandy: the vet who does our U/S is a board certified veterinary radiologist and she alway lets us stay in the room and tells me what she's seeing as she goes. Then she does a formal report for us and our regular vet. Good luck....I sure hope it's nothing. If the vet shares anything with you on FP, I'd love to hear it. (((Tessie Lou)))...we'll save birthday cake for you!

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Good News (mostly)

Hi Maria, Julie, and Marjorie,
Well, the great news is...NO TUMORS were seen! (HAPPY DANCE!) And, the vet said her liver "looked beautiful." (WOOTS and HAPPY DANCES!)
The pancreas was another matter. Some long name which means there's a lot of fat around the pancreas, causing inflammation and pain. Bottom Line: She HAS to lose weight. We still have the bloodwork in the early morning (before insulin shot or food), and then wait a week for results. The board certified radiologist who did the ultrasound had just attended a special workshop on feline pancreatitis, but he said it dealt more with the acute kind (with vomiting, etc.), not the chronic kind that Tessie Lou has. He did say that antibiotics are falling out of favor with vets for pancreatitis, so we will not be doing that. But, he said if the bloodwork shows something called "sludge" in the liver (again a big long name I can't remember), that antibiotics would be recommended for that.

Also he said he believes the spasms she's having are related to pain from the inflammation around the pancreas, and pain meds are in order when I see the spasms starting.

All in all, I'm relieved. I can and will get this weight off her, and we'll manage her pain until we do. A tumor would have been a different story.

Prayers answered. Feeling darn lucky, all things considered. Thanks for the support, everyone!

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Good News (mostly)

So glad for mostly good news, Sandy! I would definitely hit the food charts and see which acceptable foods are lower in calories so that at first, you can feed similar amounts of food but have it affect Miss Tessie Lou less. Glad to hear that the procedure went well also!!

Don't worry, Miss Tessie!!! Even do we'z all off defending de catnip patch agin, dere will be KTSS spa treatments for u tonite!! De bus even haz a jacuzzi!!! See ya soon! --Willie

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Good News (mostly)

That is great! I know you will do what needs to be done in order for Tessie Lou to lose her weight ... :RAHCAT

Yay, great news. Come on Tessie Lou, it's time to put that Wii Fit into motion. Have a great night guys!

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Good News (mostly)

I'm glad that the procedure went well, and you got results right away....I HATE waiting for results! I'm glad it wasn't a tumor! I have no experience with CP, but there are others here who do....they may be able to give you some helpful suggestions. Maybe put CP? in your heading. Good luck with the weight loss plan!

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Good News (mostly)

Hi Sandy - I am so glad that you got your results right away, and that it is not a tumor. Huge relief. I am with Laurie - there are those here on the boards that deal with CP, and I am sure they could help you. I too would put CP in your subject line. and if you come up with a good weight loss plan, let me know. Mannie could use one. I have been negligent in pursuing one for him....

Tessie Lou!! It's ok.... I know how tired you are1 The KTSS will come and pay you a visit. And since Tobey if part of the KTSS krew we can just have another party at your place, a more quieter one, cuz we know you are worn out. But you gotta have some birthday cake. See you soon! ~~ Mannie ~~ psssttt.... Willie's right: the bus has a jacuzzi!

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Good News (mostly)

Oh Sandy!!! I'm so happy for your news!!! I just couldn't believe that such a young girl could have a tumor!! I'd be interested in knowing when you find out the name for the condition. So she has pancreatitis??? Or she just needs to lose weight to get rid of the fat around her pancreas? Don't tell anyone but I know someone else who could lose a few pounds...shhhhh.

Tessie Lou....wait till you get a massage from my baby brother....he's the best!!!!!

Re: 4/13 Tessie Lou AMPS 285 - Good News (mostly)

Very good news on the test results. It sounds like something that can be managed.

TessieLou, KTSS is on the way. We can't let you miss the party! -- Tess

Hi everyone, Tessie Lou is laying next to me on the couch, with her paw tucked under her chin--so cute! She is absolutely exhausted, and has a very bald belly.

Christie, that's a great idea about the food charts. I hadn't thought of doing that! Was just was gonna cut down on quantity. I already weigh every bite that goes in her mouth, but she seems to need 9 oz daily (4 meals and a late night snack). It's hard to lose weight on over 300 calories a day, esp. with practically no activity. If I can find food that is lower calorie, then I can keep the same number and quantity of food for her. That's brilliant!

Devon and Julie, yes I am really relieved, and I am psyched to get this weight off her now!

Maria, hadn't thought of using the Wii! Maybe I should get her the dance one and we could do it together. I could stand to lose some pounds myself!

Good idea Laurie, I will do that. This forum is rich in experience, that's for sure!

Michelle, I didn't know Mannie was, well, you know...too! All those parties and BBQ's take their toll, right?

Roni, thanks for the dancing kitties! I wanted to put them in my post, but I don't know where you get them! Yes, absolutely, prayers here (and everywhere) are so powerful! Thank you so very much for yours.

Marjorie, I love the pic! Miss Tessie Lou would love a great massage like that! Well, I think that CP is the prelim diagnosis, although I think they may be waiting for the blood work to give the final. The term she used was "hyper-echoic" about the fat around the pancreas. I need to google it.

Thanks, Sienne, me too!

Ann, yes it is good news and I think definitely manageable. I have been trying for 4 months to get her to lose weight, but she just won't budge off 17 1/2 lbs. The vet says cut calories by 15% immediately.

Mannie, Willie, Tess, Gracie, Moonie, and Tobey, you guys da best! I feelz so much better after the KTSS came and I got da "get vettie smell off treatment" It works! Tobey you gibz the bestest massage--specially for a baby!! I just gotta work on lickin this jelly stuff off my fur now. Dey shaved my belly! And now, mom says no fuds all night! She says I'm "fasting" and I don't like it! It's gonna be a long night. Ever time I fallz asleep, I dreamz of cinammon cake--yum! And no breffis til we get home from vettie--again! ...Tessie Lou

Hi Sandy,

Witty had to lose weight, we followed the vets advise about how many oz of food to feed each day.
She also had pancreatitis, which as you may know is very painful, it sounds like you vet recomended pain medication, which I consider a must with pancreatitis. We used Bupenophine when Witty had a Ptitis flair.
I'm glad there was no tumor :RAHCAT .

Have you looked at Dr.Lisa's page on reducing a cats weight? She has a formula for calculating calories per pound of ideal weight.

I wouldn't go by a formula - every cat is different just like every human. Cats have to lose weight slowly and monitored closely to make sure their liver handles weight loss. If you do this slowly you lessen chances of dealing with Feline Hepatic Lipidosis.

If you don't have one already get a babyscale/postalscale/petscale. They can be found very cheaply on amazon or ebay. Ones that weigh to the ounce or better. And start charting her weight. Figuring out the calories needed for maintenance and slowly reducing the calories.

Also you should have periods of maintenance in between the losses to give the liver a rest.

A cat's liver doesn't process body fat very efficiently - it can clog with fat when a cat is losing weight. Some cats can get this very quickly and easily. Some cats can lose dramatic amounts and not be affected.

Just pointing this out because the CP diagnosis is enough to deal with. So glad you got a diagnosis. Hugs.
