Looking good Kushi. Great job Joe! Have a great day guys!

Re: 4/13 Kushi AMPS~83 NEW Dose (.75u)

You did great last night.

The AM/PMPS are not always the same. I wouldn't try to read too much into the difference in numbers. As it stands, they are within 20% of each other which could be attributable to meter variance.

A note re. terminology: There's a difference between low numbers and symptomatic hypoglycemia. The vast majority of the cats here will have periods of low numbers. There are only a scant few that I can recall that have ever had symptoms of hypoglycemia. Because we tests and use food to manage the curve, it is rare that a cat will ever get to the point of hypoglycemia.

If there's no one around, the post on handling low numbers should have all of the info you need if you're not sure what to do.

Thanks! This "stuff" is slowly beginning to sink in and register. Last night, I felt comfortable, dealing with the lower numbers ( I have read the info on handling low numbers and printed it out) and just knowing that few cats actually get to the "hypo" symptoms is certainly helpful. The more experience I get the less I will get to the "HYPER" stage.

The other thing that bothers me is that so much testing (I know it is for the good of the kittie) is beginning to really irritate Kushi. So now she tries to bite, although she does still purr when being tested. And we are still dealing with a constipation problem (giving Purelax/Miralax). No BM is 2 1/2 days).

Re: 4/13 Kushi AMPS~83 NEW Dose (.75u)

Add as much water as Kushi will tolerate to her food. That will help. If you don't see some litter box action soon, I'd call your vet. You don't want constipation to go on for too long.

Re: 4/13 Kushi AMPS~83 NEW Dose (.75u) +1~70 +2~53

BTW....I have not been testing for ketones....first of all, have not caught Kush in the act, and furthermore, other than holding test strip in her urine stream, I need suggestion for other ways to get a sample?? :?

Hi guys .. kushi is looking great in these numbers .. sorry to hear about no LB action in a few days, maybe today is the day you get your prezzie's! We add a good bit of water to mochas food .. she likes it sloppy anyways .. Hope you guys have a great day!

Re: 4/13 Kushi AMPS~83 NEW Dose (.75u) +1~70 +2~53

I think you are going down the dosing scale the right way. She may not be on this dose for long but you are still seeing some action from the previous dose.
You are doing a great job.

Putty has been on insulin for over 2 years and sometimes he is fine with the testing and other times he lets me know he has had enough and hides under the table. All I have to do is show him treats and he cooperates very nicely.

My wife said she thought I was worse than any mother she ever saw.

Giving ears a break; next test will be @ +10 or + 11

Hmm......I think you have become a testaholic in a very short time. Looking at your ss I see you could not wait until +10. ;-)

Hi Joe,

Your doing great! I used a plastic soup spoon for collecting urine from Sara. I used to sometimes bring her to the LB and she would go. As she was getting ready I would take out the strip and just hold the spoon under her stream. It didn't bother her because I was coming from behind. See if that works.

Good going mom!

Re: 4/13 Kushi AMPS +11~91 PMPS~100

Beautiful day today, Joe! Keep up the good work!

Any luck with the constipation? I agree with the extra water....miralax needs extra water to work properly. I also agree not to let it go too long before visiting the vet....

Re: 4/13 Kushi AMPS +11~91 PMPS~100

My cats are both on miralax--an 1/8th of a tsp..I also add water to the food, it helps.
Hope you get some magical poos soon! that's what we call them here!
We are all pretty neurotic momma & dad beans here--It goes with the territory! Not an easy thing this
sugar dance, but well worth a healthy kitty! You're doing great!

Re: 4/13 Kushi AMPS +11~91 PMPS~100

i think my friends are convinced i'm nuts, and maybe i am. we do strange things for those we love!

we mix about 50% water with the canned food . . .

Re: 4/13 Kushi AMPS +11~91 PMPS~100 +1~91 +3~53

Been mixing with more water.....still nothing; will add more. If no results by a.m., may have to make a trip to the vet. Have already talked to her and she only gave us same advice (more water).

Think maybe drop Kushi to .5 u?? Still no BM; will really dose her up with Purelax and give her one more chance. Will Call Vet and see what she thinks.
