PM update:

Today's numbers
AMPS 349 Shot 1.75u
+2.5 306
+5 378
+6 365
+10 334
PMPS 315 Shot 1.75u
+5.5 410!

I just don't understand these numbers. He's on his 4th cycle at increase to 1.75u. Still does not seem to be responding much to the insulin to me.

This morning's post:

Hoping to get some sort of curve today, but poor kitty's paws are a little sore and not pulling a readable sample lately. I must go through 4 test strips each time I test him. I can't do his ears, he won't let me near them. Hoping to get a +2.5, +4 or +5. +6 amd +10 & +11, but that all feels a little ambitious.

Hi guys .. sorry to hear that guinness paws are sore .. hopefully they learn to bleed like the ears eventually do so it's quick and pain free .. And this nice slow drop is what we like to see .. have a great day guys!

I'm surprised he's back up at the +5, I will get a +6 and go from there. Actually caught him in the act of peeing today. Negative ketones! Yeah!

you know you're a felinophile when you get excited about catching your cat peeing!

can't remember if anyone has suggested to you to use the neosporin ointment with pain relief? you can put it on a few minutes before you want to test, then wipe off most of it before you test. it seems to make it a lot less noticeable to the cat when you poke.

i would sure keep trying with the ears - seems like the paws would be so much more painful. i did a bunch of clicking of the lancet by punkin's ears before i started so he'd be ok with the noise - then the key seems to be to do it all as quickly as possible. he's not keen on it, but he does tolerate it.

Julie,

Thanks for the suggestions. I used to use the Neosporin (with pain relief), but he kept licking it off and then vomiting. I figured it was the analgesic (aspirin) in it that wasn't agreeing with him. I now just use the original Neosporin and that helps to pool the blood up a little quicker for a faster reading.

I've been poking his paws for 2 years now. When I first started with his diabetes back in 09, we attempted the ears, but he won't even let me touch them, let alone stick a needle in them. With his paws, I lay on the floor with him, show him his bag of treats and say "lay down" and amazingly he does. He knows the drill to get the treat, but lately it seems as if my strips aren't sucking the blood up as quickly as they used to (or at least as I remember), so sometimes we are doing 2 or 3 pokes at each reading, which is causing some sore paws. He's smart though, he will change sides after the first couple of pokes. And when I am trying to get many readings in one day, it gets a little harder. We will get through it!

Sorry to hear that Guinness has some sore paws.

Thanks for the feedback on the meter question today.

His paws will be ok, if you scroll down on my spreadsheet and look at the neurotic testing from our first time at this dance you will see a kitty with sore paws. He's doing good. We have an understanding...I will work to help keep him alive, if he will help me to help him. I was unsure of his commitment today when he tried to eat some vegan Mayo on the sink (it's got brown rice syrup in it), but his PMPS was actually lower than I expected so we are all good. Shot a 1.75u and hoping for a low +3 or +4 and then a great AMPS. :RAHCAT
