Nothing different to report. Numbers continue to be high and I am going to call the vet this morning to discuss the clavamox and if it possibly has sugar in the liquid. Simon is drinking more and he is just not as active. This may be because of the dental on Friday, but even when I let him sit outside yesterday, all he wanted to do was lie in the sun and not explore like usual. I don't like what these higher numbers are doing to him. He continues to eat pretty well. I ended up increasing his dose to .50 this morning. I'll come home at lunch to check to see how he is doing. I'll post later after speaking to the vet.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Re: 4/11 Simon AMPS 275

Poor Simon... hope he's feeling better soon! How was your weather this weekend? I know when the season change is in full gear, Willie typically eats a bit less and naps a whole lot more... he was even passed out cold on the fire escape this weekend! I was worried, but then remembered I get worried every year about this time. LOL By last night, he was playing and back to normal.

Hope you guys have a good day and that the vet has answers soon!

Re: 4/11 Simon AMPS 275 + 6 260

I called the vet first thing this morning but I haven't been able to talk to him personally as of yet. The receptionist did let him know what was going on and he told her that bg shouldn't be affected by the clavamox. Anyway, he is still supposed to call me so we can chat. The dosage change hasn't done anything with his numbers so far but we'll see later on today.

Christie, thanks for reminding me about the weather. Pollen season is in full swing here so maybe Simon has some allergy issues and is not feeling as chipper as usual. I also think his tummy may be a little upset because of the antibiotic.

I'll update after I hear from vet.

Re: 4/11 Simon AMPS 275 + 6 260

usually clavamox gives them an upset tummy and they don't get hungry...but if Simon is eating well then his appetite is not affected by it but perhaps the high numbers are making him more sleepy too....i see that with Rocket....he seems more up and about in the blues than in the yellows....

hope you get it sorted out....

prayers for you two as well for improvement on Simon's well being and BG numbers....he's had enough the poor guy going thru the dental and extractions....he needs to be his old self again....

Re: 4/11 Simon AMPS 275 + 6 260 update

I just got off the phone with the vet who suggested I call the drug company to find out if there is any sugar in the clavamox, but he really didn't think there is. I talked to the drug manufacturer who said there is saccharin in the liquid meds. That shouldn't cause a spike in bg, right? After all, diabetics can take sweet and low as a sugar substitute. Simon did not eat much at lunch when I came home so I am thinking his tummy may be a little upset. I gave him a pecid. The vet said that the tablet form of Clavamox really will not work as well (something about the right dosing). He said to just keep Simon on the liquid through Wed. so he gets enough of the antibiotic in him. He did say that if Simon stops eating, to definitely let him know since that is a more serious issue. I'm hoping things will be ok.

Re: 4/11 Simon AMPS 275 + 6 260 update

aw, Simon...what's going on, buddy?

you need a visit from the KTSS...and binks is heading out the door...

hoping for a quick and good resolution for him, Georgia...

Re: 4/11 Simon AMPS 275 + 6 260 update

You may want to pick up some FortiFlora or other probiotic. Plain yogurt with active cultures will also work if Simon likes it. Antibiotics can cause diarrhea.

I'd check with your vet about giving Pepsid and Clavamox. You may need to give them at different times since some ABs need the acid environment of the stomach to work properly. Even with probiotics, you want at least a couple of hours between when you give the AB and the probiotic.

Re: 4/11 Simon AMPS 275 + 6 260 update

I talked to the vet about the pepcid and he said that it should be fine to take, although he agrees with Sienne on not taking it too close to the antibiotic. Thanks for all the well wishes and Simon thanks you too!
