Testing troubles day 2:

He'd eaten before bed late last night + the overnight food left out (the one he likes anyway). late to bed, late to rise..and I walked...so rushing a little when I returned to get him tended to. He was hungry. I changed back the oatmeal to rice (for the sock)
First couple pokes, not a good sample. He's getting antsy. I try anyway but get an error message on last strip in vial. I run to grab another vial, he jumps off.
I have to put him back up and try again. 2 more pokes...this one looks like it's enough hopefully...then slow & BARELY travels up the passage looking like it stops short.. I'm expecting another error message. GET a 98! I switch ears, re-test, get a good bead, and an 81. He's DONE by now.
So which is it? 98? 81? Makes me question the reliability of some of our other readings. These 2BG's were 3 minutes apart, different ears, same cat.
look how different the #'s are.

Though hungry he wasn't much interested in the leftover evo 95% chick. he liked yesterday. I dripped some water and warmed. THEN added 4 pieces of evo dry crushed on top...NOW he likes it. This will be our fortiflora.

I am still on autopilot with this. I just feed whenever it works & or he seems hungry. Try to make sure he eats. Not sure what patterns we learned specific to Hank during our trial to take with us. I want to be sure he continues doing well and not get complacent. i will not always be home and able to feed multiple times and cater to him as I have been. What happens if he gets fewer meals or only gets fed twice a day like if I am out of town...will it be okay?
Is he doing well because of these multiple mini-meals and coaxing or spoon feeding when necessary? When/if circumstances prohibit that, will it be an issue?
NO one would come to feed him 10 times a day like I do....I was lucky before to find once a day.
I make sure he eats bites throughout the day & before bed, re-fill for overnight, warm/drip/dr.& so on. I feel like this is part of the recipe that has helped him. Anyway..not complaining as he is doing SO WELL (anti-jinx) just thoughts we are having. Trying to ready for yet another stage and understand what is working, and what if some of that has to change?

chores screaming..off for now.

it's not unusual for kitties who are OTJ to get testy about frequent pokes. it's almost as if they "know" it's no longer necessary. :-D
frequent meals vs feeding twice a day... since i can't free feed (two of mine would eat it all), i gradually decrease alex's mini-meals until she's eating only 2 - 4 meals per day when she's OTJ. it just fits in better with our lifestyle and hasn't seem to affect her much.

Food issues can be soooooo annoying with these finicky kitties!!
I don't have advice for your inquiries -- but showing support & cheering you both on!! :RAHCAT

Hank is looking great!

About the feeding, mine get fed 3-4 times a day but they do come back to nibble. Lucy mostly eats at meal time and doesn't nibble much. The boys go back several times to snack. I think the longer they are OTJ, the stronger their pancreas becomes so they can handle a little more.

Lucy isn't very carb sensitive so I've found that I have some good leeway. Others may not have the same experience, you'll find out by testing whenever you try something new.

Looking good Hank!

Feeding with be the fun one to figure out won't it Betty? We might get to not having to do shots anymore, but gotta figure our how to feed them through the day. I've been trying things through trial and nothing's working to well for us yet. I did notice we pulled down to the 80s after we went without as much food the last couple of days so we are looking at 2 smaller main meals and 1 snak between am and pm.

Happy Day 8 Betty.
Hank is looking really good.

I also can't figure out the feeding. I seem to have lost every regimented routine
I had for the past 5 months.

I am sure we will figure it out!!! :-D

Happy Day 8! :RAHCAT Awesome day Hank! cat_pet_icon Keep up the good work dancing_cat dancing_cat dancing_cat

Betty, what about a timed feeder(s) when you have to go out of town or be away for the day? I haven't looked at them because I can't afford five of them and you know Tugger would sit and guard the food in the slot and no one else would get to eat  Lots of folks use 'em though and I think some of them have multiple kitties.

Hi Betty-

I only have Boomer so I can use an autofeeder and monitor what he eats/doesn't eat. Do you more than one fur-kid?

I know what you mean about the difference in numbers with a test 3 minutes apart - this happened to me too. Either number is good though, so either way you're fine and Day 8 is lookin' good! ;-)

Hank killed his bird again. I hear him yowling from upstairs racing down thinking he's in distress..and there he is with his baby duck (chick?) in his mouth sounding as if he were being tortured. I mean he's dead already, Hank. How many times do you have to kill him?

Not to worry..it's his stuffed dead duck-let. But why the yowling..? it's as if he's the one being tortured. He's killed this thing dozens of times already..but there he is wailing walking through the house with it in his mouth like it's fresh kill. Hasn't he figured out it was already dead?

LOL Hank-a-licious =)

Bella has a furry spider that she does the exact same thing with. I know when she's got it because she has a specific call she uses. It's funny, she'll offer it to one of the other cats then snatch it back and run before they can decide if they want to play or not.

I'm not sure why they yowl about them. None of the others have ever done it, she's the first for me.

Hope your day 9 starts of with lovely numbers! I'm still catching up from last night lol.

Betty-

That's hilarious! Boomer caught a (real) mouse once, but didn't kill it. I rescued it and threw it out the front door and I saw it limp off. He had it in his mouth and he woke me up growling with it in there. He doesn't do this with toys but I wish he would. I like that kind of cat drama! So silly.
