Maybe not Em, he might not be there yet, it's still early in his treatment.

I noticed on Charlie's SS, 4/12-13 is missing, will you be away a couple days? don't remember if you mentioned it, but I don't remember what I had for breakfast.

I actually JUST noticed that. I just skipped a day. I'll fix it. Lol. I don't plan on going ANYWHERE ever again. Lol just kidding. Thanks for checking out his SS. His favorite color is pink ;)

Granted its early to make predictions, but I think he's bouncing off his blues.....kinda like his innards realize h'es there and think "oh no" and then he races back to pink...that's why I think there might be some excitement coming - not necessary as dramatic as green.

If you lived closer I'd be making bets with you - it could kinda be like playing the horses, something I haven't done in years even though there's a track a couple miles away.

GEEZ LOUISE CHARLES!!!
What is going on?!
Sheesh...he has only been red a few times. I thought he was doing well. He is sleepy. Laying on the kitchen floor waiting to be fed.
ALSO, he does has stage 4 periodontal disease and needs some teeth pulled...I think I need to get on that. We see the vet on Monday for a blood check. I'll ask about it then.
I know infection raises BG. But so does the trip to the vet...on top of that we are getting a baby drooler next week. Yup, a puppy. We didn't plan on Charlie's diabetes when we bought the dog!!!

Remember the meter variance - that could just as easily be a threehundred something consistent with his other preshots. Once when I got a red I was so ticked off about it that I retested and got a pink. And yes, getting the dental done could bring the BG down and make it easier to regulate your boy..as for the puppy - who knows ;).

Ah yes...the BG difference...thank you for the reminder. I know I need to be patient... cat(2)_steam

If he has teeth that need to come out and infection in there getting those taken care of will help greatly on getting him regulated. If you have any questions at all about having dentals done on diabetics I can walk you through it all...so for both Maxwell and Autumn have had dentals done and I have the list of things to cover with vet's, how to handle insulin the day of, and aftercare down pat...I think I could recite most of it in my sleep anymore...lol

I know getting Autumn's dental done was a large part of her getting to where she is today.

Thanks Mel. It does worry me... Someone on here talked about getting 17 teeth pulled and the baby got even more sick. Charlie is healthy besides his teeth and the 'beetus...so I think he'll be ok... How much did your baby's teeth cost? I'm thinking he may need at least 4 or 5 pulled  nailbite_smile

Re: 4/11 Charlie AMPS 321 +3.5-317 +7-297 PMPS 408!

Well Autumn had 8 teeth basically pulled 4 actual teeth and 4 roots that had broken off at the gum line, and had 2 BBs removed from her face and jaw and it ran me $75, Maxwell only had 2 teeth pulled but they had a harder time getting the roots out on him and he was $95 but he had a lot more scaling of tartar done than Autumn did. Plus I live in a half a horse town so costs aren't as high here as in some of the bigger cities, plus my vet really loves me, since they can call me whenever they have a new feline diabetic patience to come in to teach the new sugarcat parent to test and shoot, so I get somewhat of a break on price with them. Like when we lost our 18yr old to cancer in November my vet didn't charge me for any of his end of life vet visits, xrays or even his euthanasia costs, the only thing we were charged was for his cremation and only that because she doesn't do that in house and since it was a seperate business she had to charge for his cremation.

The biggest thing with a diabetic is that you want to make sure they put them under with gas rather than injectable so if they start having problems they can be brought out of it quickly, and no insulin the day of the procedure until they get home and are eating again.

Oh that's good to know.. I'll talk to the vet Monday hopefully.
Thanks so much. I'll message you if I have more specific questions.

PS...244! Nice nighttime number!!!

Oh yu may also want to ask if your vet charges a flat rate for dentals or if they charge by extractions...mine is a flat rate plus meds up to 8 teeth. Maxwell as more expensive because he required additional meds for infection, as well as fluids...Autumn flew through hers and was screaming to go home and eat...lol

The other thing is don't let them give you Amoxiciallian as an antibiotic, while it is a great broad spectrum antibiotic it is loaded with sugar as I learned when the new vet at my clinic sent it home with Autumn after her dental...so my favorite vet swapped it out for me for clinamycian a much better antibiotic for a diabetic...no sweeteners.

Oh man. Good good good info!!! I'll take notes and bring them with me. And I'll call them tomorrow and ask about the procedure...as far as how they charge. I may even have to shop around.

Yeah - the last time I had a dental done on one of mine it was over 200 dollars - and that was at least three years ago without the recommended bloodwork. As much as I like my vet they've gotten too big.....close to a dozen vets in the practice and they have a big shiny new building that looks more like a spa then a clinic and their prices reflect it, sigh.

Its about 100 for a regular visit with shots and I didn't care too much because I was only going once a year....but I think I'm going to do some investigating myself because its not like either of mine have a preference...they dislike all vets :)
