Yesterday's Condo


I want to first start by thanking each and every one of you that visited my condo last night and offered prayers and support. It makes a big difference, I can assure you. I was pretty overwhelmed by it all, but I'm doing better today. Cinco, meanwhile, is happily napping, sans collar, in his hidey hole. I-) I-) I-) The DH left it on this morning, probably didn't even remove it for t/f/s because he's always in a hurry to get to tbp. :roll: I took it off when I fed and tested Cinco at +3 and he ate very well and then settled right down for a nap. He hasn't tried to rub or scratch the incision since that first time, so maybe I'll be able to leave it off all the time soon. I will definitely put it on today and maybe tomorrow at night and when I have to go out. I did stop at Petco yesterday and bought a soft collar, but I'm not sure how that will work out. They didn't have any specifically for cats, and the small I got seems awfully heavy compared to the plastic cone. Cinco already tends to hang his head, and this extra weight would only make it worse. I might try it on him later, but I'm thinking right now that I'll probably be taking it back.

The OV said we could discontinue the Clavamox, but I'm inclined to give it to him another day or two, as the area where the sutures were is still a little red and irritated looking. I'd rather not take any chance at infection. I have plenty left.

The reason I said the results were "partial" is that further testing is required to determine what "type" of cancer it is. I haven't 'spoken to the OV's tech yet to get the info on an oncologist, but that's on my list next.

I'm planning a quiet day at home today, with lots of chores that resulted from having company and being gone over the weekend (laundry, putting extra linens away, etc.), on top of the usual stuff. I'll only run out to the grocery and possibly Petco, so Cinco should have most of the day cone-free. :thumbup

Yay for the freedom from the cone. I know it just has to be driving him (and you) crazy!

I'm continuing to keep you and Cinco in my thoughts and prayers. Paws crossed for some good news with the further testing.

The blue grotto is a very nice place to hang sometimes. That's great that he's leaving the incision alone, both because the incision isn't itchy and he doesn't have to wear the cone. Many vines for good test results. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Interesting. Starting off the evening in blue, lower than his AM+6. Just gotta keep me guessing, don't you, Cinco? confused_cat

He spent most of the day sleeping, collar-less. He hasn't bothered his incision at all that I can see, BUT, apparently the shaved area on his back leg where the pain patch was is driving him crazy. It was the first thing he licked yesterday when the collar came off, and today (when I wasn't watching), he licked it raw. I'm afraid the collar is going to have to go back on. Does anyone else have experience with a pain patch and the aftermath? Could I help by bathing the leg, do you think? I'm not sure if it itches, or feels like there's still some adhesive from the bandages or what. Of course, this happened after the OV was closed. Maybe I'll call his regular vet and ask them. I hate to put the collar back on, but what else can I do? :YMSIGH:

He was not too enthused about his dinner, which is unusual, but after a brief plate chase, he ate it all and is now working on seconds.

My heart is hurting for Rachel as she mourns her precious Chyna. Sending many hugs and comfort vines to her. :YMHUG:

Very nice blues for Cinco tonight! Sorry that I don't have any experience with pain patches. Hopefully someone will be able to give you some good info. Sending lots of prayers for Cinco and you and DH...let's have some good news about that mass...prayers for treatable! Scritches for Cinco!

Thanks, Deborah. I did call the vet's office and they said my choices were to put the collar back on (which I really don't want to do), or bring him in and they'd put a bandage on it. Well, I have sterile gauze pads and waterproof tape, so I can do it myself. My only question is whether I should put some neosporin on it? I know lots of us use it on the ears, but is it okay to put it on raw skin, too?

I put Neosporin on a cut on my hand today. I think the concern is whether they lick it, so if you have a good band-aid on, it should be OK.

I hope Cinco has a nice bluesy cycle for you tonight.

Thanks, Wendy. I caught Cinco licking his leg earlier. I told him to stop it, and he did! He really is a good kitty. Since I can't be there to tell him to stop it all night, I will be bandaging the leg before I go to bed. I did a little research and it seems there should be no problem with the Neosporin, although they recommend not using the kind with pain relief. Luckily, I have both.

I'm sorry to just be catching up. I'm so sorry about the partial dx and I hope it is something that is easily treatable and can go into remission. I'm glad he is feeling better and I hope his leg owie heals soon.

Thanks, Marje. He's sacked out on the family room couch right now, which is really special, considering he hasn't spent time anywhere but in the living room for months. This is largely because Harvey is very territorial and has tried to intimidate him into staying in a small area. For some reason, Harvey hasn't challenged Cinco the last two days when he has come into the family room. I'm not sure what's going on here, but I like it. Having Cinco in the family room, where we spend most of our evenings, is a real pleasure, and makes it much easier to keep an eye on him. I'm liking his numbers, too. The OV said they should come down now.
