Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't posted in a very long-time. Beau has been doing ok with a few good days followed by a few bad days. We started front loading last weekend and things to be going pretty good. He's currently on Lantus 1.25u BID.

I know the procedure is test, feed, shoot. Beau never had an appetite problem so I always test, shoot, feed. Even when he doesn't finish his food within 10min, I was always able to hand-feed the rest to him w/n 30min after shot.

This morning he vomited a small amount of water (normal for him, he does this about once very 2-3 weeks). But he has NO APPETITE at all. I already shot 1.25u around 7:50am PST and haven't been able to get him to eat his regular food (Fancy Feast Classic, EVO Cat & Kitten Turkey, or even his favorite Merrick's Surf N' Turf). He wasn't even interested in his treats of freeze-dried chicken or liver!

OMG, I'm freaking out a little (actually A LOT). I know I have 2 hours to get food into him after the shot but not sure what else to try. Please help. Should I break out the HC and Karo if he's still not eating? HELP!!!!

So, it's been about 30 minutes since you gave him his shot?

Did he eat okay, last night? How is he acting?

Breathe and try to relax a little, as Beau cat will pick up on your anxiety.

Have you tried a bit of human tuna?

It's been about 40min now.

He ate well last night as did every other day/night.

He was still licking his lips this morning when I tried to feed him so I think he's still feeling nauseous.

He's hiding under the blanket now.

I'll go see if I have any human tuna.

Perhaps his tummy is upset. If you have any Pepsid AC in the house, you could give him 1/4 of a 10 mg tablet. (Only the Pepsid AC or generic famotidine.)

No tuna in house.

He ate a few bites of FFC Chicken but that's less than 1/5 of his normal breakfast.

The only thing I have in the house is Walgreen's Dual Action Acid Controller Complete in the Berry flavor: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/wa...plete-chewable-tablets/ID=prod4185627-product that contains:
-- 10mg Famotidine
-- 800mg Calcium carbonate
-- 165mg Magnesium hydroxide

Another one is Extra Strength Rolaids that contain:
-- 675mg Calcium carbonate
-- 135mg Mangesium hydroxide

Would either one work?

Pepcid is a miracle drug for cats & does work on their nausea and tummy probs..
Just dont panic, he will eat, try to get the pepcid..he'll be better quickly from that..
Yes Take a Deep breath, & try to remain calm...

you don't want to use the "complete" with extra ingredients. Just plain famotodine.

I would keep trying to find a little something he will eat. Test at +1 and see where the numbers are going. If they are dropping, then you might want to break out the HC.

Will he eat human food? Like lunch meat or fresh chicken?

amps - 149
+0.75 - ate a few bites of FFC chickn
+1 - 172

Going to the supermarket to get some Pepsid, tuna, and chicken for him now.

I just want to add that he may be on a rebound from yesterday am's low greens, thus the higher +1 than amps vs the few bites of food he just ate. He tends to do that after a row of greens/blues.

ok, got the original Pepcid AC and gave him 1/4 of 10mg tab. How long do I wait before offering food?

How often should I give him the Pepcid?

can you get a current +time and BG for us, alicia?

i think you only wait about 10 minutes for the pepcid to take effect, then i'd try whatever food you think he's most likely to eat.

Just tested him about 20min ago right after giving him the Pepcid. He ate a very tiny piece of oven baked chicken, it's all the store have at this time, it was lemon pepper flavored but I removed the skin.

His BG is starting to drop but at least he is eating a few bites of things here and there. Will keep monitoring and try the canned tuna in water as next step.

amps - 149
+0.75 - ate a few bites of FFC chickn
+1 - 172
+2 - 124 --> 1/4 tab 10mg Pepsid --> ate a very tiny piece of oven baked chicken

I will remove the 911 from original post for now and will put up again if he continues to dip without eating.

Thank you all for the support this morning. Hope some of you will still be around for the next couple of hours.

there's almost always someone here - especially during the day.

glad he's eating a little bit now. do you have the sticky on how to handle low numbers printed out? the one that is at the top of the lantus posts? that's always a good idea, just in case the electricity goes out or the forum goes down. doesn't happen often, but you don't want it to happen when you need it!

sounds like he's back on track - just keep feeding him and getting regular tests in so you catch it if he needs some higher carbs.

HOORAY, BEAU!!!

i was watching from the sidelines, Alicia...didn't want to get in the way.
Glad he's feeling better!

Binks would sell the Torties for a bite of rotisserie chicken :-D
(truth is, he's give them away just to get rid of them...but he DOES love him some chicken  )
