We all understand how you feel, hang in there you are doing great, being here is a very good start

And since he is underweight and still unregulated I wouldn't worry about how much he eats I would give him as much as he wants, and when ever he wants, and only withdraw food two hours before shooting time when you start testing him

Glad you were able to get some help last night. I'll just add one thing regarding meters. Walmart has a few options for meters. The Relion confirm or Relion micro both use a tenny tiny drop of blood, the strips are a little under $40 for 100. The Relion Prime meter uses more blood(about twice as much), but the strips are a little under $20 for 100. If money is tight, the Relion Prime might be a good option to consider. I still am amazed how fast I can go through a box of test strips.
 
Hello and Welcome! I agree with @saltycat I blow thru test strips like crazy, especially when you're testing 6-8x per day - they go fast!
No way could I afford to be ordering strips constantly online for the alphatrack meter. I'm very happy with the Relion - tiny drop of blood makes it very easy to use!
