I'm totally in shock that it's been 30 days and Puckett is doing so well. Most of my kitties are rescues from a feral colony that I took care of and we have a lot of genetic issues in this group of kitties. I have 9 kitties that live with me at the moment.
Puckett has gotten very good about the insulin injections. I put him up on a counter and give him some baby food (chicken) and he's gotten so comfortable about things I don't even have to hold him while giving him the injections now. Testing on the other hand is going slower. He absolutely detests his ears and his feet touched so I've been spending time when he's in the living room on the sofa with me just rubbing his ears and getting him used to having them handled. I would like to have already been testing him but I've checked in with my vet and she said given that he's feeling so much better to go ahead and take my time getting him used to having his ears handled. She has been caring for all my former feral rescues and she knows how skittish some of my kitties are and takes that into consideration. Thankfully I used to work as a vet tech so I'm alert to any unusual changes with my kitties. But slowly but surely we getting there.
And Puckett has always been a kibble head but he's very happy to be eating canned food now. The only down side of it is that he doesn't eat a huge amount in one sitting so eats several meals during the day. Thankfully I work from home so can accommodate him easily. And of course always has 2 of his meals at injection times. I wish I could get my other kitties to eat canned food only but they get EVO which my vet has given her OK on. And it's interesting that Puckett now could care less about the dry food and happily eats his canned food even when the others are eating their dry food.
