Re: 3/9 Mickey - How is everyone handling the spring foward

I was just thinking about that too. So I searched through the old posts to see what I did last year.
I started moving his shot time BACK by a half hour starting Friday night. I guess I'll do the same starting tonight unless there's a better way - like with split dosing.

Example from 3/2011
Normal shot time 4:30 am/pm
Friday night 4:00 pm
Sat am 4:00 am
Sat pm 3:30 pm
Time change over night - spring forward 1 hour
Sun back to shooting 4:30 am

Oh kill me now, we have to do THIS again?

Peggy thanks for the reminder about Daylight Savings Time, and Marcy thanks for posting your schedule from last year.

It helps to be reminded since I can't recall what I did last year to prep because I spent the night of the time change in the ER with Harley. Funny how those things overshadow other memories.

Re: 3/9 Mickey - How is everyone handling the spring foward

Gals, I'm really stressed with work right now, but I will try to get to this question sometime tomorrow. I always hated the time change too. One thing that people do though is make too many changes, like Marcy outlined. All those changes aren't necessary with Lev. I have to think about it, but I can get you there with maybe 2 changes I think, but one is probably a dose decrease.

Re: 3/9 Mickey - How is everyone handling the spring foward

I would actually handle it with two dose decreases. Lets say you shoot at 8a/8p:

Saturday night shoot at 8p (current, OLD time) but reduce the dose by 15-20% or so.

Sunday am shoot at 8a (NEW time - so an 11 hr cycle), but reduced dose by 15-20%

Done.

Right now Jeddie is on .75u, so I would shoot .6u for both shots.

Peggy, for you, is your split dosing day Saturday (before) or Sunday (after) the time change? I think you don't need to make any changes since you are moving him forward (extending) him. The time change will take care of 1 hr of that for you, so still do your splits, but if they are on Sunday, the first one would be 6a/8a. If they are on Sat, than make the evening one 8p/10p

Re: 3/9 Mickey - How is everyone handling the spring foward

I'm lucky this year Musette handled it herself by making me wait a couple of hours to shoot so I only backed her up an hour so once the time change happens we are going to be back on our original schedule. :-D

Now if I can just convince her to go OTJ before I have to do it next year.

Re: 3/9 Mickey - How is everyone handling the spring foward

Thank you Sheila. I don't know that those who are on larger doses need to decrease so much, 10% is probably fine. But you otherwise lined it up perfectly. The dose decrease is the quickest way to do it and allows you to not have to think about what time on the clock it has to be. Just give it at the regular time tonight, turn your clock forward, and give tomorrow morning's shot at the regular clock time! As long as you've decreased the dose a smidge, it's fine and you're doing that because in actual time, the cycle was only 11 hours.

Sheila, you should put your post on Health, that might help out those who forgot the time change was this weekend already and didn't do the usual routine of dropping shot times back by 15 minutes starting yesterday. It is not necessary with Levemir nor Lantus.
