I think it's safe to say Quincy is one of those "dawn effect" kitties. I was surprised at how much his BG came down, even with (or perhaps because of) eating right after the AMBG test.

Whooohooo - nice numbers!

Bad news... Quincy just ate 1/2 a cupcake... no joke. Last I saw him, he was asleep on a warm pile of laundry in the bedroom. I was on the computer, then walked into the kitchen to discover that he had taken a cooling cupcake off the counter and ate 1/2 of it. I am so bummed... he's such a food monster. Something like this hasn't happened in weeks, and now he pulls this stunt during his OTJ trial.

I guess this is going to be a real test of his pancreas. Do I have to abort this trial, or wait and see what happens? Are there certain spot checks I should get to keep track of this?

Damn... I had just cleaned the kitchen of everything but those cupcakes and had just returned to put icing on them. What kind of cat likes cupcakes???

Oh my! Quincy has great taste!

Laura, maybe he just wanted to celebrate early? Why can't every trial day hold such a celebration?

He took it into his own paws. Congrats, by the way.

I guess I should be glad they didn't have frosting on them, at least. What a little stinker! When I saw him on the floor with the cupcake (not sure if he pushed it off the counter or carried it off), I almost cried. I'm afraid to see what his BG will be, but plan to test him tonight to see what damage he's done.

A sugar cat, of course! Logan would've been all over that cupcake, too! Logan and Morgan (one of my civvies) LOVE carbs. One time, Morgan actually stole a baguette off of my plate and took off with it! It was as big as he was, but he carried it off growling. He took a swipe at me when I tried to take it away - so I let him gnaw on it for a little while. He couldn't figure out how to eat it.

Just test him later - he'll be ok. These things happen.

The cupcake thief has a pancreas! What a great PM number for a kitty who scarfed down a cupcake!!

Unfortunately, he ate the cupcake AFTER the PMBG test. I'm going to test him in a 1/2 hour, which will be +4 after the PMBG and about 2 hours after the cupcake debacle.

Re: 3/7 Quincy OTJ Trial Day 3 & the cupcake # is....

So, about 2 hours after eating about 2/3 of a cupcake, his BG # was 156. Ugh.
I have used Karo when Quincy dipped <40, and he cleared that pretty quickly, so hopefully the cupcake's effect on his BG will clear fast too. I hope this won't derail his pancreas by making it work too hard.

I guess I just shouldn't cook, bake, or perhaps even eat anything in the house unless it's <10% carbs.

Oh, my...what a sneaky little guy he is! Mine would have done the same thing! How could he pass up all those yummy sweet carbs..and nice and warm, too!

I hope he clears this quickly and he's back on track for you soon, Laura.

roflmao!! i can just see the headline.

"Cat forces owner to lose weight!"

or the lead into the evening news

"Coming up at 10, the latest in dieting: adopt a diabetic cat!"

Cindy you are too funny!

Laura - see where he is today and if he can bring himself down nicely, then you don't have to have a mistrial.

A similar thing happened with Maui on her first trial (it wasn't cupcakes - it was dry food), sadly she couldn't bring herself down enough to continue, so we had a mistrial and a few days later tried again.

But it sure made me take action and ensure that all dry food was removed from the house. You will just need to put all bad foods away - in the oven or microwave where Quincy can't get his paws on it.

sorry don't mean to laugh...did you take a picture by any chance?

I rarely leave anything in the counter but the oven was too warm to put the cupcakes in and the microwave was kind of crowded for them. I really thought I was safe because he was nestled in a pile of warm laundry. He must have smelled the cupcakes... such a stinker.

I don't have a photo from last night, but I do have one from a time when he was very young. He licked the frosting off parts of a cake I had left out, and nibbled it in different places too. I should scan it and post it.
