Oh picky Checkers! Tarragon is a crunch addicted kitty as well. Thank heavens for FF. Wrong way Checks!! Have a great day Barb!

Re: 3/7 Checkers amps 156 +2/200 +3/227

Oh, I totally sympathize with you, Barb. Trixie is Ok with most canned, but my civvies won't touch it with a 10-foot pole - and I've tried everything. Honestly, if they became diabetic (anti jinx!!!!!!), I would have to work around the kibble diet with them. I wouldn't have a choice - they'll starve themselves before eating enough canned. I've watched them do it. I wish I had an answer for you...but I do have some hugs. Try and have a great day with your kitties!!!

Re: 3/7 Checkers amps 156 +2/200 +3/227 +4/229

I just saw something new with Checks.

He turned up his nose at the FF Whatever, that I gave him, so I picked it up and brought it in the civvies 'dining room', which is a desk, sort of behind me, as I'm at the 'puter.

Next thing I know, Checks is eating the "civvies" food. But, he was picking out only the small specks. I took a letter opener and started separating pieces and he just kept eating. He seemed to be able to only pickup tiny pieces with his tongue. He was at my eye level, so I could see his mouth/tongue.

If this would get him to eat well, I would spend any amount of time it took, to separate his fuds into tiny chunks!!!

Sorry this is so long, but I'm so excited to see him eat so well of cat food

Re: 3/7 Checkers amps 156 +2/200 +3/227 +4/229

Actually, sometimes we have to do that with our civvie, Noah. For some reason, he occasionally finds an entire bowl of fuds to be overwhelming, but if we give him one kibble at a time, he starts chowing. Then that sort of jump starts him, and in a few minutes, he dives into his bowl. Kitties love to keep us guessing, don't they? No matter....it is fabulous that Checks is eating now!

Hi Barb,
Very cool that you may have found the answer to Checkers eating his wet food!! dancing_cat - chop it up and let him think it's the civies food!
Now bring it on down a little please Checkers sweetie.

I thought my cats were the only "large chunk" challenged ones. I kind of have to mush it up and make sure it doesn't stick to the bottom of the bowl. AND that the sides of the bowl are sloped enough that they can lick it up the sides. ohmygod_smile
have a great day! hugs and scritches - mary and ollie

Re: 3/7 Checkers amps 156 +2/200 +3/227 +4/229

Mary, that's the problem. It is the smooshed pate, that he apparently has trouble eating. It is served on a saucer with slightly sloped sides, to make it easier to lick up....or so I thought. He smooshed it down in a bowl too.
He doesn't like chunky canned foods.

Maybe it resembles kibble more, when I separate it into tiny chunks.

Oh well, I hope he continues to eat, if I cater to this week's whims.

Re: 3/7 Checkers amps 156 +2/200 +3/227 +4/229

Hi Barb. I hope Checkers stops his upward climb albeit a slow and small one. We have our fingers crossed that you've found the trick to getting Checkers to eat.

Our civvie NFC is a very picky eater and hates change. That was a major problem when we decided to switch our 2 civvies from iams dry food to all can food. We finally discovered that mixing the aims with the can food she would have to eat some of the can food to get to the iams. After a few days we would just a little less iams and she'd eat her food. We continued reducing the amount of iams by a small amount each day until there was only can food in her dish. It took awhile and a lot of patients but now her diet is all can food.

I hope the Allerplex does the trick for Checkers. Have a great day.

Re: 3/7 Checkers amps 156 +2/200 +3/227 +4/229 +5.5/287 +11/

Oh good grief! I don't know where this came from. Since I tend to blame myself for everything that goes wrong, I wish I had made note of every bite he took today.
I gave him nothing that would account for this number. He ate only FF Pates...chicken liver.. boiled chicken...and what should be fine, Sheba Salmon Entree pate, which is said to be 3% carbs.

PMPS won't be any better, 'cause it's close to that now. I let him eat, cause it won't make a difference, at this number. *sigh*

Easy on yourself there woman!! We can only do so much. I remember what seems like a million years ago, when i was asking where ollies goofy numbers were coming from, Sienne reminded me that it might be "because he's a cat". you are a wonderful momma bean.. take a moment to give yourself a hug.

Re: 3/7 Checkers pmps 551

thank you Mary....I'm so scared...he's never been this high before. I don't know why.
He ate a couple tablespoons of boiled chicken at +11.25...that wouldn't do it.

Re: 3/7 Checkers pmps 551

Barb you do a great job with Checkers. Don't be so hard on yourself. Sometimes they just throw a high number at us for no reason. Hopefully Checkers will come back down soon.

Hey Barb,
Be ok! Maybe you want to ask if someone would check on his numbers. It wouldn't be a pity party. Our babies hold our hearts and when we don't understand what's going on we need a little help.
Way back in May, Checkers threw you some 500s just before a reduction.
xoxo mary

(((((Barb)))))

Things that come to mind:
Bounce (see below)
pain...does his bupe dose seem to be addressing his pain?
Any contraband at all possible?
How about mouth issues? I suggest that based on the way you are describing him eating.

These high numbers are really hard to not worry about because you are such a great mom and you love him so much. I have a suspicion that he went lower last night (not necessarily too low) because he went straight up from AMPS. He's just really having a bounce right now but it'd also good to rule out those other things which could add to the bounce.

You know we are here for you.....and I think he will be just fine. Let's give him some time to clear this out. Then we need to see where he is. If he's not going into lower greens, an I crease might help smooth out the bouncing a bit.

I always blame it on the weather causing all those nasty bg figures. Sometimes it canbe UTI coming? Rosy got all wonky after I caught her with the pink urine. She never had any obvious frequant lb visits either. Just to give you another side to observe.

Hi Barb - so sorry for those numbers. omg... this could be a Mannie condo. a classic, of late, Mannie bounce. Believe me, I know how hard it is to look at these numbers....Don't worry he will come down.

HUgs!
