3/5 Shasta

Good morning all,

Shasta is working on her breffis right now...appy is ok. Now she is off to the LB. Got a few purrs, preening and a little play last night. Got plenty of pee last night/yesterday but only one poop and most of it was outside of the LB on her LB mat. The vet should be getting the plastic litter in today and then I can get to work on collecting a pee sample. Yippee. Ok, I'm outta here so that I can get myself ready for work...but I would rather stay here and nap and snuggle with Shasta. Hope everyone has a great day.

Blessings to all the beans and kitties!!

Hi guys .. a nice dip into the blues already! Who wouldn't rather stay home and snuggle with their furbabies? Oh if only cat food, litter, test strips and insulin were all free  have a great day guys!

Hi, Deborah ~ Shasta is looking good today!
I hear you on the wanting to stay home and snuggle ~ that's my daily battle (esp. on rainy days like today!).
There's nothing like cuddling with kitties  .

Hi all, thank you for checking in on us today. I don't know what's going on, but something just doesn't seem right with my little Shasta. I keep hoping that it's residual grumpiness from Monday's bad vet visit, but I swear, there's something going on with her. I had the worst feeling leaving the house this morning. She just looked so hopeless. I'm just crazy worried about her. She's losing weight and seems like she's losing...I don't know...her mind, her will power, I don't know. She is snuggling with me right now, helping me with her condo.
Shasta the grumpy snuggler

I did pick up the plastic litter and put it in an extra little box to try to get a urine sample. HOWEVER, they only ordered 3 little containers and it barely creates a little tiny layer on the bottom of the box. I don't know if she'll even use the LB!!!! And then I worry that she'll try to eat the plastic beads. Has anyone ever used this stuff? non-absorbent litter. Here's a pic... plastic litter

Oh and one last thing...I hate that Shasta is losing weight and that she doesn't seem like she feels good and looks miserable...I broke out the Friskies (shredded Turkey & cheese 14%). I mixed some into her dinner and dinner snack. I just want her to be happy. Yes, I want to keep her diabetes in check the best I can, but god forbid she be near the end of her days (don't mean to be a drama queen)...I want her to be happy and I want her to enjoy her food. Heck, we all cheat every once in a while...I just had pizza...and lots of it.

Ok, I'll be back in a bit.

I heard the word pizza. :-D bam... here i am...

i've used that litter. or um.. non-litter.
I had better luck just putting a big plastic bag over the litter box.... got a nice big sample that way....
caught it quickly and put it in fridge until morning.

I'm so impressed with those who can catch it mid-stream.... Shadow wants more privacy than that.

I think you need to listen to your gut... and see if they will give you a tranquilizer so you can get Shasta in. Saturday is coming.....
You've been worrying for a while now...

Better to find out you're paranoid than in denial.

Hi Deborah :-D Looks like Shasta has had a nice even day today. Good girl! I hear you too on the fuds.... We aim for all LC here but there are days, especially with all of Mannie's health issues, that I just want hi to be happy, feel good, so we feed fav foods, even if the carb count is a little off... all in that that aspect has not made too much of a difference,. So... why not! Good for you on the pizza!

my vet also uses that LB stuff to collect urine. It never worked for us, mainly becasue Mannie would not use the LB when it was in it. darn cat! Urine collection has always been a huge problem for me when I have to do it at home. However,,,, wit all his issues of late, and knowing I had to get it at home, I switched to a new LB system called "breeze" ( TIdy cat line, I tink). anyway - it has big pellets in the LB, and a tray underneath that collects the urine as it passes through the pellets. Now that works perfectly! And he uses it. Been a lifesaver for me. Petsmart sells it. Good luck - I hope Shasta will cooperate for you.

I think the urine collecting litter boxes are the best. I have the smartbox which used to be sold at the top of this page when I got here.
I think it's the best way to go for older cats when you know you are going to need samples off and on....
Shadow prefers it to her old litter box. She has two set up and always uses her smart box.

Rhiannon, you crack me up! Another pizza-a-holic! I'm not sure how my vet feels about tranqu'ing a cat with heart problems, but I need to ask. I'm hoping a urine sample will get the ball rolling for SOME answers. If not, I wonder if pizza would distract her long enough for them to draw blood...I'd sacrifice a piece for her!

Michelle, I'm worried that Shasta will be a little too much like Mannie in that she won't use the LB with that stuff in it! Unfortunately, it's what I have at this very moment and I'm praying to get a sample because I would really like a little information on my girl.

I'll have to look into the smart box for future use. I finally just switched over to clumping litter and cleaning the LB 2-3x a day last fall thanks to Dr. Lisa's catinfo.org site. Golly I felt like the worst mom EVER after reading all that info...always using the wrong litter, not enough litter, not cleaning it regularly...I'm surprised Shasta didn't walk out on me in protest! :YMSIGH:

Re: 3/6 Shasta PMPS=201 +1.5=313 +3=190 +4=206

Hi Deborah, I've used that no-sorb litter before with my civie. I used a litter box one sized down from normal and he used it just fine. Maybe since you've been changing type of litter and depth of litter she'll just roll her eyes, think you are changing again and just USE it. Paws crossed on successful collection.

Pizza - I knew there was a reason this condo was calling me tonight.

Re: 3/6 Shasta PMPS=201 +1.5=313 +3=190 +4=206

HI Wendy! Glad the pizza called to you!!!!  I'm really hoping Shasta goes for it. That litter isn't even covering the bottom of the LB...and that's the smallest size I've got...much smaller than her usual one. This will definitely be interesting!  Hope I didn't tempt you too much with the pizza comments! :-D
