I am going to kill my beloved Oren with my ineptitude. I was so exhausted this a.m (been moving him back a bit each day for the upcoming time change) and in my tiredness, didn't even realize i'd given yet another fur shot. I went back to bed and imagine my horror when at +3 testing (after finally getting some rest) to find him at 577 and the distinct odor of insulin on his side. I swear i checked at shot time and didn't notice it. chalking this one to exhaustion.

beating a dead horse here, but I'm about at wits end. Resetting the counter yet again.
I cannot see how an increase is not merited soon, as he apparently bounces even from 200s (the amps of 477 )

Hi Megan

The first couple months can be daunting. It does get better.
Patience and persistence will prevail - trust me on that.

A solid depot needs to be constructed. Once you get 6 consecutive cycles at this dose and you can evaluate for potential change..

Hang in there and hang in here.

Speaking as an expert in fur shots, :oops:I'm not one to give advice, but I can sympathize. Even Neko's vet admits she does fur shots. Maybe there's something in Marje's post on Testing and Shooting Tips that could help? Personally I just found a syringe with a slightly shorter needle and might give those a try. And as someone here pointed out recently, there's a reason this smiley made it into the collection. :banghead:

thanks Wendy; I feel like the worst mother in the world when it happens. when i discovered this am, 'after the fact' i broke down in major tears. but resolved i just have to do better. I too am considering the short 5/16 needles? Currently using .5 inch. Where did you find yours?

That has been an issue in itself, trying to acquire my next set of syringes; walmart is perpetually out of stock of just what i need (w/ other testing supplies too) and it drives me nuts. other pharmacies don't carry the BD syringes in the 1/2 U markings and argue w/ me that they don't come that way. I am down to my final 20 from the initial box of 100 and want to make a switch but also overpaid for them at the pharmacy where i got them.
I'm using BD gauge 30, ultra fine, 3/10ml/cc, doses to 30 units, 1/2 inch needles, the barrel only marked in 1 unit divisions.

Since going to 2.25 units, I have been using the printed calibrated for BD syringes insulin ruler that someone posted in a sticky I believe. I actually am fairly comfortable using that now, but am wondering if the shorter needle would help.

Have you looked around ADW for syringes? I found these BD ones with the short needles. You can also buy a single box. Here's a cheaper option but longer needles. If you go to FDMB shopping page and select ADW to place your order, the site gets a percentage to help run it. They are pretty quick to deliver. I get my test strips there.

Strangely enough, near here the Safeway pharmacy is the cheapest source for syringes and I just got a package to try. In Canada, BD mostly has a monopoly so they are easy to find.

well, based on his drinking/peeing today and the pmps 428 (lower than yesterdays after starting in 200's) I wonder if i got more of that shot in this a.m then i thought...wasn't able to get midday tests. Good clean shot tonight. staying positive, patience, patience patience....
