Man Loki's PMPS is at 378 +12 . Started to get ready for the time change this weekend also. He is playful, eating well, nice clear eyes.
Do you think I am feeding him too much? He gets a 3 OZ can of FF low card at AMPS, at +6 and at PMPS. I am not feeding him in the middle of the night for the last 2 nights because I figured he was getting enough. So he gets 9 oz total.
The only treat he gets is at test time, he gets the Bonito Flakes.
Thanks
Michele

Hard to know about the higher pmps. Yesterday he was green at nadir so he might have gone down to double digits at nadir and be bouncing back up. I know I am nagging  but it really helps anytime you can get a number midcycle.

Does he seem hungry? Is he skinny? I fed my 13 pound Maine Coom 2 cans of FF daily but he was chubby and didn't go for excercise at all. Have you tried adding the warm water to help fill him up?

Hi, Sue to answer your questions.
When this all started last year Loki went from 17 lbs to 8 , he is now 10 to 11. He always was a grazer when I left the dry food out but now with only wet, he comes and finds me about every 4 hrs or so for food. He is now almost 16 (next month) and has not been a really active cat.
He is not really getting exercise right now, in the summer he goes out and hunts and also hangs out there chasing things like dragon flies etc. I do try and play with him every night so he moves around some.
I started adding warm water last week when you had mentioned it, also I add it for the other 2 cats in their food, they are also on wet only now.
Loki does not eat with them because one of them is a bully and won't let him eat. The other is fine, he eats and leaves. Loki seems to like eating alone.
Cannot think of what else I can add. I will do a +6 daily from now on to see if there is a pattern. Somedays it may not be possible but will try to get most days done.
Thanks

If you really think he is hungry, I'd give him a little when he asks. Sounds like he can use the weight. Sometimes it's the transition from having it always available that makes them think they need a little something.....

If 10-11 pounds is "ideal", he'd need somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 calories a day to maintain that weight. It depends on what his "ideal weight" would be, and your vet should be able to tell you that.
Diabetics need more calories than "normal" cats would, because they don't digest and use the food efficiently.
Three cans of FF a day is in the 225-250 calories range. The easiest way to tell if it is too much is to get him weighed every couple of weeks. My vet allows people to stop by anytime and use the scales for free. Maybe your vet would do that?
