I honestly dont know whats up with her appetite. Ever since she was diagnosed with pancreatitis back in July, it hasnt been great, but I hadnt really had to assist feed as much as Ive had to recently. The Mirataz helps marginally, but she will only eat very small amounts on her own. Like today, shes had 144 calories for the day. its bed time, so unless she eats a few treats (sometimes she will sometimes she wont), thats her calorie intake for the day. 73 calories of that number I assist fed, which means I put food on my finger and stuck it in her mouth. She used to be very good about this, but is now becoming less and less tolerant, which also makes giving pills harder as well. Shes having an ultrasound done on Monday. Im not really sure what to do. I cant let her eat on her own all day, because like today, she only ate about 70 calories by herself (and that was in 3 feedings!). She certainly cant maintain her weigh on that. She rarely eats more than 175 anymore (with the assist feeding). She must not need any more than that even tho shes 13lbs, cause she isnt losing weight.
Shes on all the meds, Ondansetron, Mirataz, Buprenorphine, Gabapentin and sometimes Cerenia (although I cant tell if that makes her better or worse) She doesnt throw up which is great. Only thing I havent tried is to switch her appetite stimulant. One of my vets suggested Elura, but I tried that with another cat and it didnt work. I used to use Cyproheptadine, so I may try that. Shes also getting B12, Prozac (for attacking my younger cat), Milk Thistle (because I read it can help with Blood Glucose, but it hasnt so far) and Lung Gold (because she had a mild cough, which is gone now with this supplement)
So for now I just keep on assist feeding her at least once a day.
