I feel like the R is really helping him down a bit this morning. I was hoping that we would achieve a 100 point drop from his AMPS, but he went up between +3 and +4. I think, in Darcy, the R only lasts about 4 hours. Obviously the Lantus hasn't quite kicked in yet at +4 (seems like it anyway). The only thing he ate after his +3 was a very tiny bit of Tiki Cat After Dark chicken, which is about zero carbs. I may give more R mid-cycle at +6.

Mid-Day Update: I only seem to get one good number per cycle and then he shoots back up. I just gave the mid-cycle R.

At two hours after the second R dose he's at 313, so a drop of 86.

Oh, oh.... I almost forgot. I called the vet this morning and the Cabergoline has come in! I'm going to drive over there today to pick it up. They ordered it from Wedgewood. She (the vet tech) said I have several months worth. She said it was fine if I wanted to work with them directly in the future and due the auto shipment thing. Sooooo... @Olive & Paula I'm ready for all the tips you can give me! :)

Yeah !!!!!!!! Wedgwood sends 1 syringe with bottle. My 1st call to them (of many) was 1 syringe was not going to last entire bottle. They said you can rinse syringe and reuse it many times. Fine. But eventually the numbers wear off it. So with next order ask for 2 syringes.

Read label carefully, make sure all the math adds up.

Register on their website, you can refill from there or do auto refill.

You need to really shake up bottle well and protect from light. I kept it in empty probiotic box (fit perfect) then in drawer where her other supplies were.

I had box of 1 ml syringes anyway, but doesn't hurt to have extra.

Time to give is what works for you. I gave Ollie's +10.5 because I was always home then and she got meds all morning so it gave her a break. She was usually sleeping and I just squirted in side of mouth.

Track it on your ss. Look at Ollie ss and you will see it. I did day and dose (since her dose changed) to keep track in the closest time cell.

Can't wait to see how he does with it.

Thank you. I have loads of syringes around here of all kinds of sizes. I got tired of re-using vet syringes for meds, and we do a lot of kitten and baby fostering too so we always need plastic syringes. Some of the numbers on these (I guess cheap) syringes rub off VERY quickly. I'll check the label carefully and post here. I can't believe you got away with giving it to Olive while she slept! :-) Luckily, my guy rarely complains about anything. Even when it's stuff he doesn't like, he doesn't get mad (like some of my other cats might). She said to wear gloves when giving it and so threw some in with my bag.

Ever see the movie The Blob? The Blob was more active then Ollie. She had a few months of being normal but the abdominal mass and pancreatitis had her feeling bad most of the time. Liquid meds or powdered meds in food were no problem with her. She was a foodie and a sleeper.

I was never told to wear gloves, never did. There is a stopper in the bottle so none ever leaked out. Never touched inside of syringe or plunger. It was in her before she was awake enough to know it.

Aaaw. Bless her heart. Do you mean when she was younger that she was really low energy, too? Or just after she became diabetic and then the pancreatitis and then the abdominal mass really slowed her down? Good thing she was a foodie!

I'm so happy to read the Cabergoline has come in, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Mr. Darcy does on it!
And it's so great to see those drops today with the R! This is all progress.

I only had her 2.5 yrs. Her estimated age was 11+ yrs when I adopted her. So don't know what she was like when younger. Knew she was diabetic on adoption. Within 3 weeks knew about abdominal mass, hcm, murmur and "pancreatic inflammation" . The inflammation never entirely went away. Chronic flares. 2 full blown pancreatitis episodes that I know about. Then add the diabetes and acro.......

She always gave me the impression of being fragile, very dainty, princessey even when playing, very girly girly. Oh but such a lover even if you couldn't cuddle or actually hug her.

Great news on the cabergoline! Paws, fingers, toes crossed here that it helps Darcy.

I too had noticed you weren't getting much duration from preshot R. Good plan on the mid cycle dose.

Yes. Things must have gotten interesting this afternoon. At PMPS he was 234. I was astounded (hard for many people to believe that I'm astounded to see a 234). But I went ahead and shot his 27.5 (no R as I was going out). I was worried that he might continue to drop, but as expected, he ate a TON of food and he's been up ever since. I'll be testing again to get a +4 soon just to see what's going on. I went out and left my daughter here at home to keep an eye on him... and she did her first test, too! She's watched me do it so many times that I knew she could do it.

Do you think the second R is what got him down to the 234. I don't know where he went before that since there were a few hours in between.

Where did you adopt Olive from? Was she a diabetic cat that you found out about? You really got a lot more than just a diabetic cat, didn't you. I assume she was not your first diabetic cat then.

Hi! How did you know to keep the cabergoline out of the light? My bottle doesn’t say anything so it’s been sitting in my counter for a little more than a month. What issues will that present? Thanks!

To keep it short. I got her from Canada after a failed local adoption. She was found in a dumpster in -0 degree temps. few weeks after that diagnosed with diabetes. Person who found her did her best to care for her. Person was extremely pregnant. Chris alerted her to me. She was my second. My first was my parents cat who was neglected due to my moms Alzheimers and my dad not knowing Smokey was diabetic. Like most followed vets instructions until one night found myself here because he was acting strange, tested at 32. If you click on my avatar and go to my profile you can read his and Ollie's story in the information tab.

My first bottle said to keep out of light. I also googled it and read it somewhere.
