After an exciting day yesterda at the vet and possible OTJ trial, everything has calmed down and somewhat back to normal. Simon is on hold for the OTJ trial until we can tell if the ear drops he has to take for 14 days will affect his bg. He was a good boy today, and didn't complain too much about the ear drops, although it is going to be a long 14 days. My civvie, Cleo, still thinks Simon is an alien cat because he has a new smell on him from being at the vet yesterday. She is being so mean to him, hissing and swatting at him.

I am not going to be able to come home today to do a +6 or +7 test, but will have time to test more over the weekend.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday.

Re: 3/4 Simon AMPS 106

Glad to hear Simon is handling the drops well, such a good boy.
Sorry to hear Cleo is not being nice, hope the vet scent evapourates quickly

Re: 3/4 Simon AMPS 106

What is with these Civvies reacting to a cat that's been to the vet? I've never heard of it before this forum. What goes through their heads?

Nice AMPS for Simon. I'd have probably made the same decision to delay the trial.

Re: 3/4 Simon AMPS 106

It looks like a nice day or Simon, and I hope the drops don't raise the bg too much! Too funny with the hissing and swatting!

Re: 3/4 Simon AMPS 106

If Cleo keeps being hissy, try the sock trick: Get a sock (or other cloth) and rub Cleo with it. Then rub Simon with the sock and go back and rub Cleo. It transfers their scent to each other so teach others' smell is on both of them.

Re: 3/4 Simon AMPS 106

  I have learned so many new things to do with socks since coming here!

Georgia, I am thrilled to hear about Simon's check-up yesterday! Congrats on finding a great vet. The ear drops for 2 weeks is a bummer, but it's better to wait and have a better chance at a successful OTJ trial for sure. Congratulations, I'm so happy for you both! Have an awesome Friday!

Re: 3/4 Simon AMPS 106

Good morning guys .. nice start to the day simon! To bad about the ear drops, hope they dont raise the BG's that much and your OTJ trial starts soon .. I feel bad for the kitties who get beat up when they get home from the vets .. mocha did the same thing to twix .. eventually she got over it .. have a great weekend guys!

Re: 3/4 Simon AMPS 106

Wonderful WCR. I am so happy you found a great vet, and WOW: pending OTJ trial. Two weeks of torture :-D , but I'd wait too. I suppose that you will know soon enough if the drops affect Simon's BG. On a good note: that will give Mannie even more time to plan a party menu.

Have a great day guys - as always - wonderful amps for Simon!

Re: 3/4 Simon AMPS 106

Sienne, what a great way to hopefully get my civvie to be more civil to Simon since his vet visit. I would have never thought of using a sock to transfer the scent. When I get home from work, I'll give it a try.

Re: 3/4 Simon PMPS 146

Darn - I guess the steroid ear drops are causing Simon's bg to go up. He hasn't been this high in a long time. Kind of disappointing although at least I know what it is from. Do I keep the same dosage of insulin while he is on the Tresaderm or if he goes higher, do I adjust the dosage?

Re: 3/4 Simon PMPS 146

sorry about having to postpone the trial. The good news is that it is only temporary. Get the ear infection and the dental taken care of, and I bet Simon's numbers will come down in a hurry.

Can you get some spot checks tonight or tomorrow? He might need a bit more juice, but I don't want to recommend a dose increase without seeing where his nadirs are. He had some nice green last night.

I am so depressed over Simon's elevated numbers. I know it is because he is on the steroid but I am just worried that he is going to continue to go up and won't come back down quickly after he gets off the ear drops. He hasn't been this high in 3 months and just when I was ready for him to go on the OTJ trial... Should I ask my vet if there is another type of ear drop to put him on that is not a steroid? Is there one that you know of?

Simon seems ok tonight although my civvie still won't come near him. I think it is the smell of the ear drops because she didn't act this crazy the last time he came home from the vet. Maybe if I put a few drops of the ear medicine on her fur she'll smell like Simon and then won't be so crazy around him. Is that a strange idea?

i dont think it sounds crazy...people transfer smell from one to the other often to get them to chill out...

and a bump for the other questions...
