Good Friday Morning, Everyone,

Yep, Rusty was indeed headed the wrong way last night! This is the highest AMPS we've experienced. Had trouble again getting blood out of his ear, so didn't test again to see if it was a bad strip. Will try to determine that later! Rusty slept with us all night (as usual) and had a good breakfast (1st sitting). The shot was successful and the excess Lev. that I squirted out smelled like Lev. on the paper towel, so I guess my worry about the smell was unfounded. Rusty played a little with Red Ears and the string, but not with his usual abandon. He's now lounging on the radiator. I'm wondering if the lack of taurine in the recalled Wellness canned food is catching up with him. That's his principal food--the one he likes the best, too. I wonder if I should look into taurine supplements.

Back later. Got to get caught up on condos. Hope you all have a good start to the weekend.

Re: 3/4 Rusty AMPS 178(!)

Good morning guys .. rusty, what's up with this amps? I know you know how to come down, so lets do that ok? I hope rusty get's his usual oomph back, I enjoy reading about his playtime activities! Have a great weekend guys!

Re: 3/4 Rusty AMPS 178(!)

Down, Rusty! What's going on with that number, buddy? Is it the moon? I've heard rumors that it's produced some high PS readings in other kitties here in LL today. Come on down so your bean can stop worrying.

Ella, no weather report? Is it not cold enough there to bother with today?

Re: 3/4 Rusty AMPS 178(!)

Hope the Wellness isn't effecting Rusty and he'll be back to his usual energetic self soon. I also hope you see better numbers for him.

Have a wonderful Friday

Rusty? DUDE!? What are you doing wayyyyyy up there. Down you go - back to the green floor. No need to come and find Mannie.... he has his GPS so hopefully he will find his way to you.

new moon..... let's blame that - or maybe solar flares....

Rusty! What's up today? Wanna get together? ~~ Mannie

Re: 3/4 Rusty AMPS 178(!), +3.5 158

Good to see him on the way back down. But it's thiamine (B-1) not taurine that was the problem w/ Wellness. I've wondered about supplements too. I can't find out how much they should get though.

Re: 3/4 Rusty AMPS 178(!), +3.5 158, +6 121

I can't believe I confused thiamine with taurine! (actually, I can believe it, since I am an idiot when it comes to such things!)

I just bought Rusty some bonito flakes because I read that they are high in taurine. He is totally uninterested: sniffed them and walked away from his dish!

Oh well! Off to go grocery shopping now. The cupboards are bare.

Glad to see he is coming down. :-D

I get the Pro Plan at Petsmart. It's a Purina product, unfortunately a lot of the varieties are not on the list. I usually just get the Chicken and Liver 2 % and the Beef and Chicken 6%.

Rusty!!! What's up buddy?? From what I read, a low B1 supplementation will result in possible gastro symptoms but it has to be a deficiency over a long period of time and is corrected once the cat is getting enough B1.
Early signs of thiamine deficiency may include decreased appetite, salivation, vomiting, and weight loss. In advanced cases, neurologic signs can develop, which may include ventriflexion (bending towards the floor) of the neck, wobbly walking, circling, falling, and seizures.
Hopefully none of our cats will experience this esp those like Rusty and Gracie that eat primarily Wellness. I did have a mix of cans in my pantry but most of the ones I recently bought were in the recall. I've been watching Gracie closely and have gotten the new cans now.

I'm glad to see he's coming down!!

Hi again and thanks for the vitamin B1 guidance (actually I had read it on the Wellness site, but it got mixed up in my head with taurine because I was also looking stuff up in Elizabeth Hodgkins' book). I think I'm losing it!! In any event, Rusty is back to playing vigorously this afternoon and his numbers continue to come down (now, if they will just stay down!). He enjoyed his +9 snack. We are going to a gallery-show opening in a few minutes, but will be back before PMPS. This is a juried show and 2 of our artist friends have paintings in it. Our village is very art-oriented and there is an active artists' guild with it's own gallery. Always something to see there, and anyone can drop in at any time.

Back later,
Ella & Rusty

Much better numbers tonight for Rusty!! I had a vet recommend to me that if I intended to continue to use Wellness, to consider adding a few drops of a liquid B complex supplement to his food. We only feed Wellness occasionally (our diet is primarily raw, and we use canned food for managing the cycle).

Good luck finding a reliable supply... have a good night!!
