Well have had a couple of weird days he and I...
Got done my 5th midnight shift yesterday morning at 6am..slept from 0930- 1230 up because my vet tech came to give Mickey's butt a wash waist down this time. Went back to sleep at 4pm oh yeah...just for a few hours..woke up at 1230 am missed his shot by almost 4 hours. gave a reduced dose of 1 unit. And regular at 0900am.
We started Prozac yesterday. I was happy that 2 days in a row he hit the litterbox....as I was bragging about this to a friend he pooped behind my couch!! I will stop doing that !!

So we will see what happens with him on Prozac soon....hope it works...He doesn't seem that cranky yet.

Hope all is well with you all and your kitties!!!

Didn't he have a negative reaction to it before? I'm just thinking that starting at the lower dose (1/4 tab), which is what I have always seen as the starting dose, even if it gets increased to half a tab, is better and not such a "shock" to his system. Jeddie was started at 1/4 tab and has remained there for about 18 months. I did try weening him off it a year ago, but that was not successful. He still has his bouts of OCD behavior so I am thinking he will be on this for the rest of his life, but who knows? He hasn't peed outside the LB for a long time (that I know of  ).

Its so strange to me that Jeddie is still anxious about things. He is very happy here, has a great pal (Beau) and enjoys playing, looking out the window, sitting on my lap, etc. He is treated well, gets lots of attention (something I am not sure he had before), so why is he still "worrying" or feeling vulnerable? I think he was neglected in his old home, but not physically harmed.

Well, good thing someone figured out you could give prozac to cats and have good results!

Ok well today he gets 1/4 tab. that will be fun trying to split that. I do have a pill cutter tho.

I am so glad Jeddie is doing well. Maybe he can send Mickey some stop pooping on the darn floor vibes!
Mickey is jumpy too, especially when Thomas is even 3 feet away.

"so why is he still "worrying" or feeling vulnerable? I think he was neglected in his old home, but not physically harmed."
How long has Jeddie been there with you?

I've have a kitten CH Jake he has been here since September and is just coming around to where he will walk over to my feet when I am sitting(only) And I can get a few pets in. Guess it takes some time for cats to trust us humans. Although Jeddie is very affectionate....So he sure trusts you. Wish they could talk.

I have had Jeddie since Oct of '09. I think trust was never an issue, really. He was very crabby in the first few days. I had him in a bathroom and had to cover my legs with something when I went in there to pee because he would attack me, but he calmed down when I let him out of the bathroom and into a bedroom and then into the rest of the house. He soon started getting on my lap every time I sat down - for about 3 months and then he stopped for a long time - over a year - but he was affectionate and slept next to me on the bed and liked to be patted and neck-scratched. After about a year he started getting on my lap again. Now he does that for a few minutes or up to about a half hour and then moves to next to me or another chair, but he comes to my lap first for purrs and patting.

Beau was another story. He was a feral that I caught and he took a long time to learn to trust me. Well, he trusted me for a few minutes twice a day while I got his food out. I took that time to pick him up and hold him over my shoulder, facing away from my face in case he decided to bite, and I held him for about 10 seconds while he growled. I know, risky, but it worked. He never attacked me the way Jeddie did, but he was not at all socialized. That did take time. A lot longer than I anticipated, but in the end it was all worth it.

Just take things slowly with Jake and he will probably come around. Beau lived under my dining room table for 6 months and would sometime sleep in a chair in the living room when I was on the sofa reading or watching TV, but he would run away if I got up for any reason.

Cutting prozac into 1/4th is hard because it wants to crumble. Do you use pill pockets? I wrap the piece in a tiny amount of pill pocket because if Jeddie tastes it he starts drooling and spiting. I just pill him with it. For a while he would eat it himself in the pocket, but not any more.

I don't use pill pockets for those.
They are too small. I just give a treat afterwards. And I cut it to 1/4 tab.

Beau sounds like Momma cat that lives in the bedroom(just in your begining), she was feral along with Hisser and Mister they both passed away with in the past 6 months. She has been inside since 09 and has just started to give it up by letting me pet her while she is laying down. This is after speaking with Dawn Allen telling me she didn't like the room she was in. I moved her to the laundry room aka used to be the third bedroom with a screen door. Lotsa stuff to climb on and she is coming along. I would let her free but Mickey and Matilda try to kill her, they even stalk the door.
Jake still runs when I get near him or get up..lol
Oh and yes, brave move with Beau!! :RAHCAT
