Very interesting info on the color therapy Michelle!! Sid is sleeping on a brownish colored blanket right now. I changed the divider lines in his SS to a blue/green

We had a successful visit to the vet today. For a cat that is on the shyer side (though pretty outgoing for a treat), he is the absolute best patient. They always tell me at the vet how they wish all of their patients were as good as him :-D

I hope to get the results on Monday. I received his zenquin today so we will start that tonight.

Numbers today:

AMPS 240
+3 251
+4.75 170
+6 78 Relion 66 contour
+7 81 Relion

I use the Relion when his numbers are between 80 and 200 to save money. I think as the bg rises, the relion gets less accurate.

Glad the Zeniquin is arriving today--what dose are you giving? My vet actually thinks that Kitty might also have a kidney infection, adding to the increased BUN and CRT values-- but the Zeniquin appears to have knocked it down. I really like Zeniquin!

Glad the vet visit went well--looking forward to the lab results on Monday.

Today's nubers look great! Wouldn't it be great, If he could go BID with these numbers and not zoom?! Good Luck! When I started TID, the insulin had totally left Kitty by 9 hours--- so, it has been great. Sid seems to get longer duration. It actually almost looks like Sid needs 10 hour dosing! That would create an interesting schedule for you.

Once again, I hope the labs are encouraging on Monday!

Go Sid!

He is getting 1/2 of a 25mg Zeniquin tablet once per day.

As far as dosing goes, it is frustrating because some days the insulin lasts a long time, once it even lasted about 13 hours. We tried TID about 3-4 weeks ago and I didn't think he did very well on it. But that was an 8 hour schedule so maybe a 10 hour schedule would be better. I am just limited in what I can do because of work. There is only about a 2 hour window that I can come home during the middle of the day and sometimes I can't even do that if I have a meeting.

He does spike up for shot times - like he did tonight at PMPS :YMSIGH: but sometimes he doesn't. I'm still not convinced he can't do a BID schedule when his infection clears up completely - which may be never considering he has been on antibiotics since the end of December with one thing and then another. I'll do whatever I think is best for him - that's all I know.

I also finally purchased a real scale just for the cats that might actually work http://www.amazon.com/ULTRASCALE-MBSC-55-Digital-Baby-Scale/dp/B0007P4BNA/ref=pd_sim_sbs_k_4

Right now I have an old fashioned baby scale that sid is scared to death of so I take him to the vet and weigh him. He was 6.2 today which means he gained a little weight from 5.8 on march 20. I'm pretty excited to get the scale and will weigh everybody!!

I have my friend's baby scale, and it stays either on the table, the floor, or the piano bench. It's such an everyday fixture in the house that they aren't afraid of it - and it's not uncommon to find someone sleeping on it!

Sid's numbers look really good today. What you're doing... keep doing it!!! It definitely seems to be working!

I've toyed w/ the 10-hr dosing to catch Grayson before he starts to climb to upper pinks/reds. I can probably swing it, but have held off on any changes until probalby late next week when I'll be home for more than one day.

I never thought about using a baby scale :-| haha, I would just weigh myself holding Pru in her cat carrier then minus my weight & carrier... guess I did it the hard way ohmygod_smile I couldn't stop think about you guys today while I was shopping with my SIL and niece. I looked for a rainbow colored scarf too! :-D , but didn't find one. If I do.. I will send it to you.

I can HONESTLY say my vet has NEVER said that about ANY of my cats! Oreo is a pistol and full of energy, but not hard to get along with at all. Hershey is pretty passive, UNTIL he gets to the vet!! Doug always tells them the cats will do better if he's allowed to hold them, but they never will let him. So, can't feel too bad for them. Now, Smokey (who had feline leukemia) - he was a WILD MAN at the vet!!!

Sure will be glad when you get the lab results back.

To weigh our cats, we use a regular digital scale. Weigh Doug then hand him a cat, subtract Doug.

Michelle - I have to say, I have never thought of doing it that way ;-) but, whatever works :-D

Y'all take care -

Libby (and Hershey, too!)

When you have REALLY BIG cats, holding them and stepping onto the scale does not work if you're by yourself (unless you have one of those fancy scales that "announces" your weight - and I would NEVER have one of those! The vet tech used to do that when she and the vet came for our annual tune-up. But my scale was always wonky, then when someone went into the office they'd say 'OMG, she lost 2 pounds!", when all it was was the bathroom scale. Now when they come, I've got an alphabetical list w/ the weight of each noted. They take it back and update their files. Works great!

The baby scale is very accurate, and because it hangs around, most aren't afraid when they get put on it. Hope is sleeping on it right now!

I think your way might be a little bit complicated, Michelle  But if it works for you, then that's good. Thank you for looking for a rainbow scarf for us. You are very thoughtful. I have some kind of rainbow colored yarn with green and pink and blue, etc. I am knitting some catnip toys for mine of course  as well as to donate to some sanctuaries and DCIN. But, I thought of the color therapy when I picked out the yarn today.

I think the baby scale is too high for the cats. None of them have ever gotten on it and when I try to put them on it, they freak out. I leave it sitting out on the floor all of the time and they all act as if it is a monster. They go closer to the vacuum than the scale

My digital scale stopped working and I bought a new scale and it is no good for weighing a cat because it doesn't get to the ounces and I can't hold sid and read the result anyway because the little lines and numbers are too small - and I am not a tall person. Maybe that's why the scale was only five dollars at IKEA. Lesson learned!!!

Lu-Ann, I don't think I'm doing anything to affect Sid's levels or if I am, I guess it doesn't seem to stay consistent. He is busy diving right now and I am trying to use a little food to stop him a bit. I'm hoping to see some improvement with the zeniquin. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
