Good Morning and Happy Easter/Passover.

Gobbles woke up in his usual good mood. He picked at his breakfast; mostly licking the juice from the wet food. No diarrhea overnight. Right after he ate, he went down to the LB and left a medium-sized pile of diarrhea. He tends to eat several small meals a day (and I mean small!) He is drinking water; thank God.

Q. I am thinking of feeding him some cooked boneless, skinless chicken (already cooked and there is a little cooked juice). Maybe that will "bind him" some. I started him on Pearls yesterday evening: one a day. He is on Day 3 of Tylan (1/16th t. 2x day). Any thoughts on the chicken?

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 ? cooked chicken

Good morning!

I have never cooked my kitties a meal, but there are plenty here who have and I am sure they will visit and weigh in. :-D My grandmother used to feed her cat raw liver when I was a kid. That cat lived to 23. I recently asked my dad about that. We both wondered if that is what kept that kitty alive and kicking for so long.

Have a nice Easter!

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 ? cooked chicken

Morning Kat, and thank you for the Easter eggs yesterday. Sending Gobbles some tummy vines, and so sorry about the diarrhea. I don't see any harm in just plain cooked chicken, nothing on it. I'm glad he's drinking water.

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 ? cooked chicken

I have found after a while that when I fed Blackie steamed, boneless chicken breast, it raised her #s, but that's her. Gobbles may not react like that, and I hope not.

With regards to the diarrhea, I have used 100% natural psyllium with Blackie and a few of the civvies. It helps to stop the diarrhea, and it's also good for if they're constipated, too. All I did was broken open 1 clear capsule, sprinkled the fiber onto the wet food, mixed it up, and they ate it. I did this 2x/day (1 morning, and 1 night). It doesn't work overnight, but it helps over time. ECID, though. It's something to think about, if you're interesting in trying it. You can get it at Walmart on the shelf.

Hoping that Gobbles shows you better #s very soon. Have a wonderful Easter. :)

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 ? cooked chicken

Happy Easter. I hope Gobbles' diarrhea clears up soon. Hopefully he'll slide down to blue for you today.

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 ? cooked chicken

I don't know about cooked chicken. Raw food sometimes has the effect of helping with diarrhea.

I would not feed Gobbles liver. Too much liver is not good for a cat.

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 +2 202 ? help re: cypro please

He drank the "juice" from the cooked chicken and ate a piece of the chicken. I NEED to get him to eat something more. He probably will lick up any gravy (from any wet food: LC/MC?HC) but not sure if I want to do that... I DO have cypro on hand; although when his vet prescribed Tylan last Thursday, he said to stop the cypro. We have a day planned away; I will be gone from Gobbles' +5 to at about +11. I am contemplating giving him a dose of cypro to stimulate his appetite..any opinions on that?

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 +2 202 ? help re: cypro please

I don't know if there are any interactions between the two drugs. I don't think there are (and I can't find any). If your vet office isn't open today to ask, I'd call your local pharmacist in order to find out.

I'd also call your vet tomorrow. If Gobbles still isn't eating well, you need to discuss this with your vet. I've been through bouts of diarrhea with Gabby. Usually after a week on a course of metronidazole and probiotics, she's pretty much back to normal. The diarrhea has been going on for longer than it probably should.

I called the ER where I took him last week; the vet there said that giving him cypro & tylan should be OK. I am going to call the vet tomorrow. Gobbles has taken to going under our bed these past few days after I pill him He's being doing this since the first time I gave him Tylan (on Thursday). He'll come out, eventually (or else I use the broom and DH & I play "broom ball"--he's the goalie)....Gobbles was on the metronidazole from last Sunday through Thursday; He started the Tylan Thursday evening and I started his Pearls yesterday afternoon... I'll keep everyone updated...

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 +2 202 ? help re: cypro please

Morning Kat, Happy Easter :-D

Poor Gobbles, sorry he still has diarrhea... Poor guy. I feed Zeus a little bit of cooked chicken as a treat... No idea whether or not it would help with diarrhea though. I hope he feels better soon, and gets his appy back.

I did have a drooler years ago that had really bad diarrhea, poor guy, I had to cook rice and boiled hamburger (that is the nastiest thing) or boiled chicken. Not the right diet for a kitty though.

Have a good day,
Kathie

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 +2 202 ? help re: cypro please

I am going to hold off on the cypro for now. I found this information on tylosin (Tylan):

Tylosin may cause mild stomach upset, lack of appetite, and diarrhea. If these symptoms continue, contact your veterinarian.

Occasionally diarrhea worsens initially before it improves.

I am going to try giving him a little MC in a little while -- Friskies Senior Salmon in Sauce -- but mix the sauce into the food before offering it to him....paws crossed, he eats it!

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 +2 202 ? help re: cypro please

Gobbles, be well little guy! Kat, i'm so sorry about this ongoing appy and poo. I hope you can find something he's interested in eating. Gobbles... be your name!

I let him out on the sunporch and then mixed enough water into the Senior Salmon wetfood to make it the consistency of a milk shake -- and he is lapping it up!!! :RAHCAT And now preening!!!

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 +2 202 +4 200

Hi, Kat, I'm glad Gobbles is gobbling and preening. I hope he feels better soon. :-D
Happy Easter to you and your family!

Just wanted to drop by and say thanks for all the easter eggs yesterday, Kat. Made me smile every time I saw one :-D

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 +2 202 +4 200

Haopy Easter Kat and Gobbles! I'd also like to thank you for the visit and lovely eggs :-D :-D

I agree with Sienne that you need to talk to the vet again. Seems to me the course of metronidazole was too short. My Max that had the intestinal bacteria was on it about ten days. I'd be careful about psyllium because he needs to be drinking plenty of water. Extra fiber like that can really be binding if there is also not enough water in the system.

I hope he feels better soon and the diarrhea stops.

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 +2 202 +4 200

Hooray for happy appy!

We give Zener a very small amount of cypro on a fairly regular basis, every day to 3 days. The amount prescribed is often far more than what kitties need to feel the appy stimulation side effect of the med, cypro is actually an anti-histamine. The pills come as 4mg and we cut them into fourths, then into eights, and just take a sliver off of the 1/8 of a tablet. We learned on LL that you do not want to give appy stimulant to a cat that is nauseated though.

So sorry that Gobbles is still not quite back to his old self, but hoping that he will turn the corner soon. Darkest just before the dawn, you know? Thanks for the Easter eggs yesterday! They made me smile.

Hi Kat, Happy Easter! Thanks for the eggs. Looks like G is having a very flat day... hope he spends some more time in the blue!

Re: 3/31 Gobbles AMPS 232 +2 202 +4 200 +6 183

Sending some get better vines over the Gobbles. Ages ago when civie Theo was on metronidazole it was also a 10 day course. Now with the raw food, things are firm as could be. I think Jill yesterday suggested trying some Nature's Variety raw chicken mixed into food to see if it works. They have sample packs you can buy.

Psyllium is fiber. Angela suggested it in your condo today.
