Good morning LL, and Happy Easter! I get extra presents today, my sweet kitty is on trial day 14 which means OTJ I guess! She also left me another present, a giant hairball overnight  So from the bottom of mine and Chynas hearts, thank you so much for your encouragement, support and answers to my questions. We wouldn't be here without you all, literally! Thank you Rebecca for having this site going and for everyone else spending their free time selflessly helping others with your knowledge! If you haven't bought raffle tickets towards those awesome prizes that the money goes towards helping this website, please consider buying a few here: FDMB raffle
All 5 Ps in place...with a sixth for party! Yesterdays Condo: Chyna 3/30
4 months ago at diagnosis I was terrified, crying all over the place and thinking there was no hope. The (previous that diagnosed her) vet told me she'd never seen BG so high and that she'd be happy/surprised to see her make it down to 20 mmol/L (which is 360 on here). A week later of searching the internet for videos on how to poke a cats ear and how to give insulin (since the vet only showed me once really fast) I found this site. I didn't post right away, just read over the information and other peoples condos. I'm petrified of needles and not so fond of blood, but I will do anything for my Chyna cat, so we learned how to do it. The first month was not good, the insulin wasn't working. I tried to be calm, but she cried every time I did the injection, and then I would cry. I wish I hadn't been so scared to post on here to begin with, I've never been on a message board.
We switched to Lantus Jan 11,2013. A few days later, I did my first post on here and had the support I desperately needed. The needles were smaller/shorter and seemed to be easier, and I learned to warm the insulin in the needle with my fingers to help as putting it in cold seemed to make her wince. We learned about all wet food and switched over completely, and saw the numbers go down along with the dose of insulin, fast. We learned that giving treats after pokes really helped ;-) We found out what is good to look for in a vet and switched to one who seemed ok with me being proactive, who believed in remission possibilities. We learned about testing for ketones, and ended up at the (new) vet when they showed positive...finding a gigantic infected tooth, which led to a 4 tooth removal and a realization of the pancreas sputtering. I pray for a lifelong visit at the falls, if possible. We still have CKD to deal with, and those pesky itchy ears, so we'll be around looking for help I'm sure
I'm off to get ready to go to Petsmart for new litter, hoping that the ear thing is a wheat allergy. Have a great day everyone, hugs :YMHUG: :YMHUG:
